Similarly the Auckland super rugby side is a dud and the Christchurch team has dominated from the startIve tried to make the same argument…get another team there and you keep twice as many

Not sure that's a good sample for what this seasons results will be.Is 30 years of results recency bias ?
They’re essentially a Queensland team re:juniors also much easier to recruit to Melbourne than internationally to NZ.Quality of Junior comps don’t seem to be an impediment for the Storm ..

Blues won the first 2 comps and were beaten finalists in the 3rd with another in the early 2000s.Similarly the Auckland super rugby side is a dud and the Christchurch team has dominated from the start
In 2002 they put together a side that was full of really stacked kiwi playersThey’re essentially a Queensland team re:juniors also much easier to recruit to Melbourne than internationally to NZ.
They should really be doing more to try and get the local players coming through but face a similar issue as the Warriors as not being able to shoulder that responsibility on the club vs the governing body.
Storm are a good example of hitting the ground running and the culture is the model NZ2 need to try and emulate.

100 percentYet it’s easier for Aussie clubs to convince NZ juniors to move then stay at home ?
The Storm have identified plenty of juniors in NSW and NZ as well
Yeah unfortunately he was built up a bit on a couple of highlight reel plays that many thought he was the next big thing. Never really kicked on and has been average bar a few form runs. His sabbatical from the game kinda speaks volumes on his lack of mental toughness to make it unfortunatelyHarris-Tavita is a pretty ordinary player in my opinion …
Yes in many cases it is easier, Warriors in the early seasons were an aspiration for NZ2 kids to play for- negative results changed that sadly.Yet it’s easier for Aussie clubs to convince NZ juniors to move then stay at home ?

That was the perfect mix (2001-2004). Club went broke nullifying contracts so the essentially had to scramble for locals/super league/journeymen to just make a squad and a bit of a perfect storm with Anderson letting them play a style that suited the. And then 20 years of meh

Long gone are the days where players could come straight from local clubs, NZRL let the game wither on the vine since those days

All from nz but not warriors
I just don’t think the warriors have paid much attention to their juniors for a long time if ever
Shame Gus left he would’ve fixed it
Penrith junior base whilst all league would be tiny vs nz
And yet rule nrl
From wikiIm agreeing with your general point … Benji was a touch footy player .. so perhaps an excuse there … Hughes I dunno … he had a few years jn the wilderness right?
Taine is a perfect 14, Walker is the starting 13, Kosi on the wing.CHT had a decent trial and seemed to compliment Metcalf game so many weren’t surprised he got the nod. Today unfortunately was the CHT I’m used to.
Agree with halves pairing, TMM is better when he’s in charge but goes invisible when he has to play support role, it’s like he doesn’t want to step on toes or something?
CNK needs to Move to centre for RTS at fullback, Taine stays on wing but shit I’m worried about Kosi or Harper being the other Wing- Maybe push Pompey out as a stop gap?
Can only carry one of Capewell/Ford/Niukore on the field at a time, put one of the young guys on and rotate them so there’s a young guy with a more experienced head. Use Niukore as a shorter stint impact player.
Clark better starting and on when the front rowers are a bit lighter, Walker coming on when we need to change the tempo/add a bit of spark
None are from Auckland, JFH would be the closest to an ‘Auckland’ Junior being a northlander but went to Aus as a teenager.Benji Marshall

“Marshall was a pupil at Whakatane High School.[12] He was offered a scholarship to play for Keebra Park State High School in Gold Coast, Queensland when he was 16. While living on the Gold Coast, he played junior rugby league for the Nerang Roosters.[13] While in high school in Australia, Marshall played for the Australian Schoolboys team in 2003,[14]“
Pretty sure it was wests tigers that got him that scholarship at keebra park high can’t remember why but he was poached directly from nz
Loads of them are. Aussie clubs are in nz convincing kids to move to Australia
Or maybe those players weren’t stand out jnrs in NZ and being in top notch coaching Australian systems turned them into what they are?Im agreeing with your general point … Benji was a touch footy player .. so perhaps an excuse there … Hughes I dunno … he had a few years jn the wilderness right?
