That looks like a stumping but how many times does the TV ump want to see want to look at the reply

Time for Ross Taylor to retire?
Yeah I think so, in hindsight should have retired on top after the WTC final. Been a great servant but his innings just then was a bad sign. It was like he knew he wouldn't be able to stay in by batting properly anyway. And he can retire knowing that for once there are some decent bats around to take his place (Young, Ravindra, even Mitchell).

Speaking of Mitchell, he showed the other 'batsmen' how to bat against India. Nice use of the feet and not letting the spinners get away with loose balls.

Pretty amazing effort, and of the three to get 10 the only one away from home
and of course the first to lose...

Some chat about where this sits in NZ great performances - comparing to McCullum's 300, not sure why that's talked about it's not even close - three men have done this... Hadlee's 9-52 and that entire series is the high water mark imo, and in many ways remains it - but, yeah, three people have done this, and he did it against India in India, and while he didn't monster them like Hadlee did to Aust (and obviously Laker did), it was a wonderful performance - which again begs the question why have we played a series of terrible spin bowlers ahead of Ajaz

This is only going one way now.

Looking forward to the Ashes getting underway

It’s a shame, Williamson and Conway would have made a huge difference

but also the dumb selections in big series continue to harm us…

would like to see 6 batsmen in our home series, Conway at 5 until Ross retires

Didn’t take long, well done India, too good in these conditions, but Ajaz and Southee aside disappointing second test from us

I've seen him bat like that at the end of previous series in India and Australia. He's just completely out of ideas and tries to hammer a quick 30. I think he'll get a home summer send off and that'll be it. Too bad we play so few ODIs these days as he's still excellent in that format.

Interesting to see the impact of the WTC. You don't get many better chances than we had in the first test to at least push for a win in India. Because we were content with getting WTC points we never entertained it. Something needs to be done there IMO.

I was actually ok with not going for the win in Kanpur. Not just because it's tough to even get a draw in India but because it set up a situation where he had 1 game to win the series in conditions that theoretically should have suited us better. That obviously didn't come close to happening but as JJ said they wouldn't have been banking on losing Williamson on top of Conway, not to mention the self-sabotage with the bowling selections.

Agreed about Taylor and ODIs, and it's probably a big reason why he's wrestling with the decision. If he retires from tests and focuses solely on ODIs (and presumably the 2023 WC) that's not a lot of top level cricket.
