I don’t get this sudden Bracewell love. Apart from that haul in Hobart he’s always been mediocre and before long is back on the piss again.

We might as well get Wags in there, at least he’ll bowls his nuts off trying to get a break.

Edit: suddenly bowls a good delivery.

Simon Doull lamenting the fact that we have no batting cover, and he's right.

Kane and Taylor aside we have a reliable but not ground-breaking Latham, 'when it rains it pours' Guptill and Nicholls who's not been impressive this series.

So that's 2, plus 2-3 maybes, and a big pile of Chris Harris's in an age where the Chris Harris is cannon fodder.

And we end it in style, five wides over the keeper on a night where we handed out 16 wides with a modest target.

Sums up the night.

And the selectors add Neesham and Astle while dropping Bracewell and Sodhi

That makes sense

And Munro still gets a free pass?

Why target the bowlers, failing to get scores in three attempts is where India are carving us up.

I’ve been critical of Bracewell but CDG has been worse. Sodhi always seems to be first man chopped.

Looks like moronic selectors is a Trans-Tasman thing now

I wouldn't worry too much. The Indians are just in fantastic form and are a great unit at the moment. Two weeks ago half of our test team couldn't play yet we pummel a poor Sri Lanka and the pundits are saying we should run with the same side in the second test EDIT - even though we still need to make massive changes e.g. Khawaja

You’re right, but I’d be happy to lose if we we’re fielding our best possible eleven and trying our guts out. India have been terrific, but I don’t think they’re unbeatable.

Everything about this series has been uninspired, with most of the group standing around waiting for Williamson, Taylor and Boult to do all the work for them.

New Zealand teams of old field hard, take catches and (usually) get out to superior bowling rather than chipping to fielders or nicking off with a big heave. An example is the 2011 World Cup where we’d be outmatched most games but we just refused to lie down and got to the semi by summing our parts.

Austalia are having similar issues, all the one percenters have gone down the toilet and it’s killing them because they should be doing better.

I think the thing that annoys me about this series is not that we lost, but rather that we didn't really seem to learn or rectify anything.

How much of this slow and reactive shit comes down to Gary Stead?

Everything seemed far more alert under Hesson.

When did Hesson leave??? Was he pushed??? He seemed to have your mob going well.
He wanted to spend more time at home with family - he's commentating at the moment, very astute. Think Stead's first series were the away ones to Pakistan, so he's had a great start.

TBH, I don't think Stead is the problem, I think it's Larsen - he's a nice fellow, but I don't ever get the sense that he's particularly astute or proactive - Stead is probably a little conservative too, so now the balance is probably wrong - been some strange selections in that squads haven't had balance, and we seldom seem to carry batting cover - the likes of Raval, CDG and Munro seem to be allowed to keep stinking things up without any pressure on them - whereas IMO ironically Southee, Wagner, and now Sodhi have been dropped/rotated out of tests and ODIs...

Munro is just not very good - his first class record is an anomaly at worst, at best his first class success has at least established in a giant flogger some ability to construct an innings - having retired from red ball cricket to become a white ball specialist he's lost his memory on how to build an innings - his effort the other day was full genius, or full Finch perhaps - flog away at a ball outside off edge it get dropped... know (surely) full well that India's plan is to continue to bowl there to you and await your f**k up, and force them to wait all of two balls for that cunning plan to work... contrast with Kohli (yeah, ok, he's a freak - but in this series Munro would do well to watch Sharma, Kohli, Taylor and when he gets going Williamson) - Kohli is beaten by a beautiful delivery from Boult outside off - so rather than continue to play at him there - he lets it go - think he had 0 of 8-10 deliveries, Taylor and Sharma had similarly conservative starts - Kohli and Williamson normally start quick, but they;'re a class above, and it's not normally flogging boundaries but hitting gaps for singles and twos...

Anyway, at some point he'll shag a quick 50 and come out with a petulant Shaun Johnson haters gonna hate comment

India 40/6 and Boult putting on a masterclass - 8 overs 4 for 9

Shame Kohli's not playing, seems a little hollow without him

FYI India's lowed total in an ODI is 54
Just equalled that

Not a minefield, but offering a little and Boult really has bowled well all summer imo, he's brilliant in these conditions - hopefully we see them in the WC (but I doubt it)
