Guptill has gone through patches like this but then he comes alive and dominates. I’m fine with him. Plus generally he’s a great fielder.

@JJ I completely forgot Munro has given up first class cricket. What an idiot. That move has spectacularly backfired. The strange thing was now that you remind me is was when Nicholls was struggling with test cricket, Munro was a potential bolter for the test middle order. Wtf was he thinking?

Munro was much happier being a T20 mercenary, and probably won’t even mind sacrificing his ODI spot.

That’s the way of the future.

Williamson chips it to Harddick who takes a blinder. Gotta admire their improvement in fielding.

Anyone else really struggling to care about this series? India are so much better than us that it’s not funny

It’s a hell of a grind watching this.

We’ve been outmatched before but I distinctly feel our efforts are lacklustre this time.

Yep think that's really hurt him

With the WC around the corner I think they either persevere with him (pointless IMO but almost certainly what they'll do) or open with Latham (what I'd do) and add Neesham at 6

No point using Young or Phillips now, other option is a Worker, Devcich or Brownlie

I’ve liked the idea of Latham opening, he’s good enough and it spares us from dead wood at the top. England and India have benchmaked using a solid top order.

We’re then short of a reliable middle-lower order bat but you’d generally expect one or two of the all rounders to click if the top four have done the job. The Munro/Guptill pair is just guaranteeing Williamson will be out there in two overs.

Aside from Ross Taylor and Tom Latham today, it’s like watching Richard Reid, Richard de Groen, Roydon Hayes, Mark Bailey, Mark Douglas, Chris Pringle, Mark Priest, Willie Watson and Colin Munro batting.

I love how most of the Plod Caps batsmen walk off with a big Cheshire grin on their faces. It’s all a bit of a laugh at the end of the day.

178-3 when Latham departed, then a pretty pathetic limp to 243 and a poor position yet again.
We're only in the game if the cut the Indian top three almost right away.

We have completely lost our mojo and lack both the skill and the hunger to do anything about it.
We just can't afford this many bits and pieces players out there.

Finally Dhawan falls to a typically lazy stroke of his. Boult should give Ferguson a high five. Since he’s come on he’s created some pressure though tight bowling. Well bowled Trent.

Jesus holy C Doug. What the hell man. Ferguson and Boult bowl two or three fine overs and you come back with a half volley on leg pin at 128 first up.
