Newcastle Knights set to snap up NRL outcast Willie Mason

wow, the "cancer" angle gets trotted out so often with Willie. what's the worst the bloke has done? pissed on a wall in the Cross? he's a good old fashioned larrakin that doesn't have a mouth-filter for the papers. i honestly don't think it extends much further than that... and i'd bet my left nut he's a fun bloke to have around training and whatnot.

have always enjoyed his totally honest and upfront character.

Media beat up is all it is pervy

He comes across as a bit of a dick but seriously, that applies to a fair percentage of sports personalities. He is certainly no Jason Akermanis in the dickhead stakes

Mason has a bit of a bad wrap in NRL circles from a few stories of his rooster and dogs days with his influence of younger players. I'd say it is the biggest reason he has not been picked up. I doubt this would be an issue under Bennett though....

He is an A grade tool.
Instant arsehole - just add alcohol.
His older brother and some of his friends are worse, which is a bit of a worry.
I can imagine him mixing with people we don't want hanging around the team, and since his little brother is one of the young guys in the team, it's a bit hard to see how we will keep them all from socialising.

Maybe he will be happy to spend his days off in Sydney, which will be the best outcome for all.

I live in newy so theres no escaping the knights but whats Snowden on a year?

Rumoured to be 400K a season. Personally I think he has been very lethargic and should be doing a lot more. Otherwise we would not need Mason. Snowy is one of the biggest players in the competition.

Sorry but what MORE do you want from him...

What hasn't been good enough for you? His 100m plus games 4 out of 6 times this year? His 30+ tackle efforts? His getting the ball 2 or 3 times a set when the going get's tough?

yeah, that's a rubbish figure. Cronulla allegedly upped their offer to $400k (remember, this is media-money, not what it says on his contract) per year - or 1.6mill over 4 years... and it was reported that he decided to come home for less.

if i had to guess, i would say he's on around $300-350k. whether this is all counted under the cap or not i couldn't speculate, but i would say some of that figure includes 3rd party payments, too.

keep in mind the cap gets raised to $5mill immediately next year, with further increases likely as we grow into our new TV deal and the independent commission era.

so next time someone tries to tell you Kade is on 400k, laugh at them. it's just not true, and not likely even close to true. even if he was, the figure probably isn't that far off his true value if you adjust for cap increases.

and lastly, Showstopper, one big forward does not a big pack make. what do you want Snowy to do, exactly? pick up the rest of the pack and carry them all over the advantage line?

High Five Pers!!

WB doesn't pay overs for props (as is well known) so I've always known he wouldn't be on 400k.

Mason would be good, but gotta wonder why he's dodged us so many times? Would his heart be in it for us?

And what has happened with Laurie? I was pretty excited about him and the impact he could have for us, haven't even heard of him since round 1.

Laurie had a blinder for the Maqcaurie Scorpions on Sunday. Too good for the real NRL when he is sober.

Snowden could certainly do with a hand. I understand he can't do it all himself but he should still be doing bigger yards with his frame. Maybe we are that predictable that they just put numbers on him and reduce his effectiveness that way.

Bingo mate. Other sides number up on Snowie big time because he is the only threat in our pack in the early exchanges. We need another threat to keep the bastards honest

I think Snowy could be the best prop going. Get Mase in there to distract the middle defenders and i think he will go back to his 2010 numbers. I mark him hard at the moment out of frustration at knowing what his ability actually is relative to what his 'stats' reflect. My bad i guess.
