That’s exactly the point. The games at 6pm rate well. It’s a matter of scheduling the right games to maximise the crowds and tv audience. Smith was a good guy.
Been a while since the Fox ratings were comprehensible. I don't recall Friday 6pm rating all that well in previous years, compared with other timeslots.

Continuing Friday 6pm games provides a strong argument for NZ expansion.

They’ve been fine and the games flow neatly into the main Friday night match. And yes I agree about nz and this time slot

Martin Medcraf, Foxtel Media sport sales and partnerships director, explained: “The AFL and NRL have both had thrilling seasons this year and it’s clear that the fans have loved the excitement from the very start. In early April, the second annual AFL Gather Round broke AFL streaming records across Kayo Sports, with a record of 252 million minutes viewed. This made the 2024 Gather Round the #1 streamed AFL round of all time.

“With the NRL, the Vegas Round matches featuring the Sea Eagles vs the Rabbitohs and the Roosters vs the Broncos are the top two rating matches for the season, so far.”

AFL and NRL both grew audience significantly

Medcraf continued: “The enthusiasm continued from there. The AFL 2024 season has seen an increase of 33% on 2023, with an average audience of 397,000. Last Sunday’s Fremantle vs Port Adelaide game led the season with an average audience of 710,000 across Kantar STB and streaming VPM, closely followed by the Carlton vs St Kilda game at 685,000.

NRL rounds 1-25 followed suit with an average audience of 483,000, +18% from last season.

Foxtel Media sponsorship campaigns overdeliver

Viewing numbers indicate the audience has been happy with the coverage. A total of 57 sponsorship packagers sold have also given advertisers reason to be pleased, said Medcraf.

“The viewer success is backed by incredible sponsor engagement, with 30 sponsors for the AFL season and 27 for the NRL. Moreover, all sponsors have been able to campaign plan using Kantar Media analysed viewing data for the most accurate audience insights. In fact, every campaign is on track to overdeliver for the season based on these insights.

The last part nails why the AFL is valuable. 3 extra advertisers covers the 90k difference in ratings.

That is before the breakdown of ads per game.

Afl pay tv deal will be 450 million pa
Current nrl pay tv deal is around 250 million pa

fox nightmare will be stan bidding for the nrl pay tv rights

With 20 teams and given ratings dominance Fox will need to be paying at 500 to 600 million pa for the nrl pay tv rights which I doubt they can afford

if Stan get the nrl rights fox would get crushed out of the market with second tier afl

Stan doesn't have that much either. Without ruining the games with QTR.

Eventually you will see Super Sat on a different network than Sunday footy

Nine and Stan put in a 3 billion bid for the fumble ball

Again as the Fox release stated there is more advertisers and twice as many ads to offset that.

Say we add a 6.15 Sunday game. The game before is ending at 6. You maybe get 20 more ads in that time. At 30secs and add it doesn't come close to covering the cost of that game

We are adding 3 teams

we are already the most watched sport before they are being added

Yes and 2 of those markets are international and bring in zero subscribers for Fox/Stan.
Nz brings in viewers for sky nz

you know the guys who pay 32 million pa for the nrl

and those two international teams provide an additional 24 games for foxsports to show to Aussie

lol

Yes and Sky NZ should pay more to cover them.
Someone else will pay for PNG games

Fox/Stan will pay for the extra games buy aren't going to pay for it all.

that doesnt have jot to do with what an Australian broadcaster is willing to pay. Admitting 2 new teams that add zero value to pay tv or fta in Australia, where 95% of the tv value is, isnt likely to see a big upturn from their inclusion.

If this next tv deal isnt north of $550million all up then questions need to be asked.

Sure they are

Tasmanian afl team will add basically zero new viewers but it’s valuable for existing fumble ball fans in Victoria to watch

yes it does

again more nrl teams means more content for existing viewers to watch

and that’s even before we talk about growing viewers in Perth or nz

a Perth nrl team on their own would be worth basically zero for tv

we are literally talking about game times that work for eastern markets lol

Pretty funny Perth red is now talking about a tv deal of 550 million pa as a bad result

before he said if we got this deal it would be a great result lol

It is that simple. The total value and the Money Australian TV pay won't be the same thing.

You'd think part of the Homework for PNG would be gauging interest for TV rights

You said we wouldn’t get 500 million

Stan bidding with nein could be a disaster for foxtel and the afl
You have a very selective memory!
I said if there wasnt competitive tension and more than one bidder we would struggle to get over $500mill.
And I stand by that.
