That article was almost unreadable and didn’t say anything that was not already known about the $100 million being paid to RA. It’s actually a negative article in that their costs have gone up close to 30 million pa and that nobody was interested in the super rugby tv deal without the World Cup and internationals

Whatever crowd figure transpires for Canterbury/Manly, it's bound to be lower than would have been the case in a more propitious timeslot. NRL agree to 6pm Friday games knowing it automatically precludes some fans, however much they might wish to attend. These fixtures are scheduled exclusively for TV, supporters at the ground are an incidental bonus.

Safe to say, AFL would never accept such terms. NRL attendance culture is now substantially stronger than previously. Fox should have to pay the topmost of top dollar if they want to retain this crowd-killer timeslot in the next broadcast deal.

Nrl got stuck with Friday 6 pm because David smith totally ticked off foxsports and after nobody else bid for the rights they had to sack him and go back begging to get a deal
