Keep shifting the goal posts

You said Foxtel couldn’t afford to pay more
lol

No once again you have comprehension issues.

I never once said that Foxtel won't pay more. What I have said all along is:

The way the rights are now, or have been discussed limits competition that the rise will be barely an inflation one.

PVL might leak that the rights will be broken up or something but how it is right now. With the 24 rounds not 27. The game will get a small rise

Be interesting to see how the News ltd media deal with NRL when they are no longer the owners of the rights.

DAZN's got a big global footprint, lets hope they see value in growing Rugby League. Hopefully they go after SL and French RL as well to create a global RL offering.

If they treat it like Union, its coverage will be greatly diminished.

Which makes the recently announced partnership with The Sporting News interesting.

You think Pvl will cut the number of rounds if it results in a bad tv deal?

That’s cute

There’s levels to this

The competion you seek will come from Stan

And even seven and Fox could lodge a joint bid for origin

If anything it looks like Foxtel are going to be squeezed a lot here and the deal is a blockbuster

News ltd being out of the picture is going to be very interesting, youd think it would be a plus given the way they have screwed the game time and again?

depends how serious they are about playing more tests. The mandated rest breaks doesn't allow that in the current setup.

Stan at this point in time have organisation issues they are looking at. Maybe this time next year they are more vocal about bidding but ATM there is nothing.

But Origin atm isn't seperate to sell hence my point

You don’t know if origin is available to sell you just made that up

And Stan have said multiple times they will bid for the nrl together with nine

There’s a lot of ways this can go. Just assuming it’s going to be bad is defeatist

Who knows if Monday night football comes back ?

The fact is the nrl is in an excellent position to get a blockbuster deal

You and literally saying 3 new clubs will be worth nothing for broadcasters as is the extra games each week (two)

Ten games a week from 2030

That’s two more exclusive time slots for Foxsports (Sunday 630, Monday night ?, sat 930, Sun 12 pm)

Let them sell the broncos too

The herald needs to focus more on league and then News Ltd would have no more role in the game

Funny how Dazn being involved means they have money for super league but when it comes to the Australian deal it won’t be a huge positive lol

Hard to say how positive it is, that would depend on how much they value the NRL rights. And I never said it was positive for Sl or negative for NRL, I said I hope they become keen on RL and create a global offering. Its an opportunity, lets see how it plays out.

If you just paid 1.5 billion for something would you want to see that gone in five minutes when your best product goes to a competitor

How viable do you think Foxsports is with only afl as its major football code having to compete with Stan having the nrl ?

And your right these could bode well for the super league rights if they go balls deep in the nrl

you wouldnt think so. I guess everything has its value though and if the ask is more than the value well you dont buy.
Maybe Stan or paramount go all in and offer more than DAZN value it at? If Paramount/Stan's rumoured $500-600mill bids for AFl were accurate that would be enough to buy all the NRl rights you'd think. Cant see FTA paying much more than the current $115mill so that would leave $350-450mill for PTV rights. Cant see DAZN paying that much can you?

AFL got somewhere around $520mill cash from Australian PTV and FTA.
If FTA pays say $125mill for NRL that leaves PTV having to stump up $395mill (up from the current $240-250mill ish) to match what they achieved in the Australian market.

What about the nz rights ?

If your numbers are right then it’s 550 million pa easy

If Stan offers 500 million like they did for afl then bidding should push the total deal to 600 million

The nrl is in the box seat with Stan and Fox bidding and having two extra games to sell as well

I'm comparing apples and apples, the Australian tv market value.

The 7% or so overseas rights value should be the cherry on top that puts us ahead.

Hahha

So now the nz tv rights aren’t included in our tv deal

You are soooo funnny

Sure let’s compare 16 nrl clubs vs 18 or 19 afl clubs and see how that looks

It’s not our fault Arthurson had the vision to expand to another nation whilst the afl didn’t

not when comparing Australian tv value, no they arent lol. Overall sure thing.

But hey if that 7% ($25mill'ish cash) of overall value makes you feel better sure include it.

When we are comparing what Stan/Paramount/Fox etc are willing to pay each code we are comparing the Australian component of the deal are we not?

When we are comparing overall media revenue sure include everything inc Int rights, radio, digital etc etc.

I thought we were talking about what Stan/Paramount /DAZN would pay and how it compared to AFL's result?
How much Aussie companies can pay doesn’t discount including what the nz companies will pay

I reckon you forget about it tbh lol

What SkyNZ is willing to pay for NRl has no relevance to a discussion comparing what Australian TV companies will pay for NRL compared to AFL. Its relevance comes at the bottom line.
