Time will tell how real it all is. Anything over $402mill and they’ve done better than us, again.

Again how does it happen?

There are rumours at Paramount wanting to sell ch10 due to losing money in their business.

Suddenly they found $600m for TV rights. Throw in roughly $10m on top of that for production costs. There is simply no way it happens

That is the key point. Longer games and 9 games a round compared to NRL.

That should be worth more right there
With the ninth team to be added soon then we can make a real comparison

I suspect it won’t be a good one for the fumblers

This old chestnut, surely origin and higher audiences are our value counterbalance?

To an extent correct. Though very few actual ads during the game of Origin though.

Even with no stoppage in play. Still have qtrs to fill in with Ads. This is why AFL has always gotten extra

Not just that.

NRLW is given away currently
The flow on to scrapping mid season tests is you now have 6 weeks of content at the end of the season to sell
Then of course he 9th game.

Maybe that brings an extra $50m a season in. That is getting close to the numbers AFL will get with the benefit of not propping up any of the sides

Given Australian tv hasn’t paid anymore for nrl in ten years by time next contract starts you’d hope to see at least $450-500mill with an extra game in 2028 onwards.

vlandys has played a blinder

let the afl go in first and negotiate for an 18 team comp

once they set the benchmark he approaches our tv networks and says right guys here’s an 18 team nrl comp that blitzes that

thanks

haha you're so deluded. Thank god for SkyNZ or we'd be on exactly the same for 5 years as the previous 5 years. They got $416mill for 18 clubs last deal, why did we sign a deal in 2021 rather than wait? Maybe if he'd seen the $473mill 2 year afl deal he might have asked for a bit more and recouped the $50mll plus lost during covid renogtiation?
By the time NRL has a new deal in 2028 AFL will have already clawed back its covid tv reductions and be on potentially $100mill plus more than us for another 3 years. Yeh sounds a genius move!

haha, truth hurt?

Not to mention if we are comparing apples with apples we are talking about the value of the two codes to Australian TV partners (and have to factor in digital given AFL revenue includes that from Telstra)

So far we have NRL on around $370mill a year (23-28) from Fox and Ch9 and AFL on $473mill from Fox, Telstra and Ch7 (for 23/24). Lets say digital is worth around $15mill that brings NRL up to around the $385mill or a gap of around $90mill in '23 and '24. $180mill behind in first two years!
Vlandys sure does look like a genius when it comes to Australian TV partnerships lol. You're love for him knows no bounds :)

Can also speak to NZ and see if it is better to have team 18 over there or will Fox pay up

Nz2 means both sky nz and fox / 9 all get extra value and content

from a tv pov it makes the most sense then you factor in juniors and weakening union in their strongest heartland and they really should be favourites

the trump card is money night football that would get Aussie tv creaming

NZ are part of the comp.. Of course you exclude them in your rant.

Maybe it hasn't but certain things have changed in that time to make the game better and the improved ratings on Kayo are a by product of it.

Sometimes the exposure is better than the cash

I think the 6pm Sunday is the time to go to. still early enough to be over on a school night and causes less hassel with the draw

Both ideally

for pure money Monday cause it’s another unique night even if it’s a dud for crowds

Not sure you can with the 5 turn around rule. Any team playing Monday could only play Sat- Sun the next week
