and? When talking about what Australian tv pays for each code there is no relevance to what NZ tv pays.
Why are we soooo far behind, and falling further behind in Australia? Like I said next year and in '24 we will be a massive $100mill a year behind in our Australian partnerships. They've got an extra a tv slot and more ad space. We've got origin and bigger Pay Tv subscription audience. Does that equate to $100mill in value?? Or has Vlandys just signed a really sht Australian component of the deal until 2028? Can we claw back that gap in '28 with an extra game or will we need something else? All good questions to ponder I'd suggest

yeh comparing apples with apples is stupid lol. $370mill +digital v $473mill. That's the Australian media revenue gap between the codes next year. That's a fact, hide from it all you want.

AFL $473 million pa ...Tell Reddy Poo his dreaming.
this
anyone could pull the shit the aflol did in the manipulation of the total amount of a deal

the NRL could have told its broadcasters to only pay it 50 mill a year for the first 3 years of its new deal
but the balance over the last 2... 925 mill a year
then go to broadcasters & say thats the starting point for the next deal 🤣 🤣
its ridiculous & utter nonsense.

No the way to work it out is revenue over the period of the deal , broken down per year
AFLOL
2020- 2022 , 378 mill PA the voluntary reduction
2023-2024 , 473 mill PA the balance
total 2.080 bill over the 5 years at an average of 416 Mill PA .. who knew

NRL
2020-22 , 330 mill PA the involuntary covid reduced amount
2023-2024 , 403 mill PA the new annual amount in the new deal
1.800 Bill for the 5 years , or 360 Mill on average per year

If the NRL can post profits of 43 mill on the media revenue its getting in 2021
the imagine the numbers it will knock out in 2023 😎

you need to grow up and stop acting like its the playground. Both codes get some things right and somethings wrong. Nothing wrong with measuring ourselves against our main competition without feeling threatened.

Profit and loss doesn’t lie

nrl made 43 million with 30 million in covid costs and after raising spending to clubs to record levels

afl lost 43 million with minimal covid costs and cutting spending to clubs

it’s probably why they pushed out Gillion is his poor financial management of the sport during and post covid

I'm comparing how Australian TV values NRL and AFL. Simple as that.

In '23 and '24 that values is $370mill v $476mill. That's a heck of a gap to close in the '28 deal, especially if they realize anything like the news reports for 25-. Would need us to add some serious value to the deal, or hopefully some genuine competitive tension for that to happen.
They, the NRL announced, that the new deal starting next year is paying over $400 million annually , with Foxtel also paying for the 17th team, it's Glory Days. Never Ever has the NRL had such CASH, Ever! ...And yet you complain.

Well it's been explained to so many times how the AFL $473 is FAKE. Foxtel are on record as saying not much changed financially since last deal, Seven West Media ( who must be sweating regarding the Cricket Australia legal case) are paying, what been publicly and importantly press realese revealed which they, ( Seven Network (Could be litigated against for false information ) paying $150m. Maybe Paramount Global pay a sqillion, but having $16 billion debt to the banks... Why don't the AFL accept their 5/600 million per year deal, why? Cause it's fake, like everything Dill Does!

Arguably opportunity for better with introduction of Brisbane2. They still have 3 FTA games a week in same time slots but from next year could boost Qlnd audiences with Brisbane2. And for that we got $5mill contra lol

Lets be honest the '23 deal was the first deal in the history of the modern game that was signed for no extra money from the games Australian media partners. There's no gilding the lily on that. Hopefully the '28 negotiations go better!

And how are those timeslots going since Fox cover the game? No one is going to switch to ch9 after watching the 6pm or 2pm game.

Brisbane 2 doesn't change that. Especially as if they are on ch9 then Broncs will be on Fox.

Compared to Super Rugby, A League who all dropped. Hell even cricket is struggling.. the game is very well off

Its not 'fake' it a recoup of moneys lost during covid. Foxtel arent paying for team 17, unless you believe that Vlandys signed an original deal with Foxtel for $100mill less lol

time will tell. We know we got $370mill from Australian tv, lets see what they manage to achieve. It will set the bar for us for 2028.

No necessarily they have three fta slots, nothing stopping them putting Broncos in one and Dolphins in another to boost their audiences. I dont have too much of an issue with FTA paying same given their audience shift, though some increase would have been nice for Brisabne2, but why no increase from Fox when they seem the main beneficiary of recent audience growth? or do you think $370mill is the ceiling for NRL rights in Australia?

Yes and those timeslots will still have Fox games before them. It is why FTA ratings have dropped since 2018 when Fox started showing every game.

Unless they get a 4th game then the FTA should stay the same

Because Fox's ratings are up around 20%. Who could predict that when the deal was done?

Didn’t they take a loan out using Marvel as capital

Not sure if they used it or not

but a lot of clubs borrowed money from banks and the afl acted as a guarantor

covid messed up the afls finances and they didn’t take their medicine like we did

this year they will get more tv money but they still are in a hole financially and will be for a while

hopefully vlandys keeps buying more assets for the long term

the goal should be 1 billion in assets for the nrl
