Th
The NRL isn't mentioned, but the article notes:

- Not closing ch 10, one part of the puzzle for Paramounts Australian division
- $324.3m profit for 2021 financial year (3.4m loss in 2020)
- $695.8m revenue in 2021 ($583m in 2020) - figures are solely for ch 10, excludes revenue for streaming
- Underlying earnings expected to be slightly lower in 2022 due to programming flops
- Paramount+ has more than 1 million local subscribers.

Most important quote:
thats good news for 2028.

ah the old think of the children excuse lol. Of the billions paid by TV how much goes to grassroots?

For mine betting ads on TV, and at the stadium itself are going to go the way of cigarette ads, and soon.

That's a big revenue hole for AFL and NRL (stiff shit though in my opinion) but it was more interesting that the article says the value of the TV deals themselves is linked to this gambling advertising.

If this is outlawed, will both codes TV deals be revised down?? Its especially interesting for someone like PVL who always seems to do things with one eye on gambling revenue.

I’d suggest this has a long way to go before it gets that dire. It’s not hard to imagine a point of negotiation between government and sport. V’landys has been eying off overseas gambling revenue as I understand it. That’s probably because he could see this coming. I don’t bet on sport so I don’t care either way. But I do enjoy the horses and Pokie dens.

its def going to happen. other countries are already ahead of us in this. You only have to look at how much gambling ads are played during sports coverage and sports shows here to see why TV don't want it gone.
People are pssing away $50billion a year in this country gambling!
Its big business for the tv companies, expect many more "think of the children' arguments from associated press.

& once again you missed the point by focusing as usual on one thing .
Let me dumb it down for you
with extreme emphasis on the word DUMB.

the last decade the Afl has during the season
9x3 hr games .= 27 Hrs weekly
NRL has 8x2=16 weekly .
A massive advertising difference for media …
They pay for content …We can’t match that for content…hence we have gotten lesser deals .
yet P/H we were getting more …lol you didn’t want to touch that one .
AFL has 11 Hrs P/W extra for media (7 & Fox to a lesser extent) to advertise .
of course they are going to pay more …it’s simple You get a jersey lol
Theres a bucketload of advertising opportunities that we don’t have .
We make up some of that with SOO & international.but it’s still a huge gap.

Now stay with me …& try not to ignore these points
Its not just about 1 figure …it’s all you have with your hate of PVL & RL
What about the largercosts of running 9 teams .
What about the larger travel costs .
The larger overall costs of running a Comp.
The larger overall costs ofThrowing a fortune at 2 unwanted teams to keep them afloat for Lol ever .

It’s not about one thing .
We are traveling pretty good well not according to you .
You can be a smaller organization & run well with a smaller budget & smaller income.
Seeing as you like to to focus on one thing.
They have many many many more Hrs of game time .
Hence they get more .

You have this rose colored view of everything The AFL does as wonderful yet hate on RL for being conservative in the past .
Even now with a very good financial report you are posting negative after negative about it while nearly all are very happy with it & where we are headed.

Well, you'd hope that these things can be monetized into a better deal, BUT the fact that we *already* have Origin, a NZ based club and test matches as a point of difference from AFL yet the current administration still gets less TV money.. well, it's hardly encouraging. :(

Only thing is that the NRL does not necessarily own the TV rights to all test matches. They most likely only own the rights to test matches played in Australia. Tests played in the UK, for example, would most likely fall under either the UK RFL or possibly even the IRL.
