Theres every chance that the networks ask wtf they should renegotiate ahead of the expiry too .

As it stands now the gap is between the NRLs "400m+ pa" and the AFLs 476m per year...but a new AFL deal kicks in much higher than that in 2025.

Depends when they want team 18 in, They will want a new deal to know if it is viable. The same would apply to the 20 week NRLW in the new CBA

There is 9 years between now and when the AFL deal ends, you could even fit a whole deal in that time.

Isn't the $476m inclusive of Telstra?

Vlandys has loads of goodies for them

team 18 (Perth) which adds another metro
More games
Pre season comp
Post season international comp
Expanded nrlw competition

that should be good for a bump of 100 million pa
Well, you'd hope that these things can be monetized into a better deal, BUT the fact that we *already* have Origin, a NZ based club and test matches as a point of difference from AFL yet the current administration still gets less TV money.. well, it's hardly encouraging. :(

Well those things have already been monetised in the current deal

I would suggest origins and nz help to offset the fact an afl game goes for longer and they have an extra team and more game overall

For the life of me I don’t why people fall for Perth Turd’s false equivalency. The only way you could compare our deals with the fumblers would be if we the same structured competition as them across the board. We don’t. As I posted elsewhere in men’s football they have more teams, far more players a lot more travel and a longer tedious boring crap filled version of football. They have an extraordinarily expensive large low quality women’s comp which has terrible tv ratings and pitiful crowds. They’ve expanded far too quickly there. As a result their costs are far higher than ours and they needed that media deal badly.
We’ve got time to expand our comp in both men’s and women’s footy. When we do a comparison of tv deals will be more, but not completely, valid. In the meantime Perth Turd can enjoy his never ending negative rant.

Good point.

I don’t think we will get the same amount per se (we may or may not) nor do I think we will ever beat that turd of a competition in revenue (we are just not likely to get the same crowds as them even if we continue to beat them in TV ratings).

However we are just never going to have the same level of costs as they have. It just doesn’t cost anywhere near as much to run a league side as a fumbleball side. We also have more scope for growth - if we have the cojones to do it we can go to Perth and Adelaide and those areas present more chance of growth than anything the fumblers can do now.

We just need to have some confidence and get over our conservatism.

We weren’t conservative before 95

True. We were probably too far on the opposite side of the spectrum to be fair.

There is a balance and in any case, the likelihood of another Super League debacle is pretty low. We just need to plan it more methodically and execute it over a decade or so rather than all at once.

I read that it was part of the deal after the war that the broncos were to be the sole club in brisbane for 20 years.
Yep

2015 it expired

and remember news ltd owned half the game and pulled out ten million a year dividends for 10 plus years when the game had no money

Abortion Ball goes for 3 hrs (game time plus Q/Ts & H/T)
RL goes for 2 hrs ( Game time plus H/T)
a few years ago I worked out what each game was worth per hr when arguing with a fumbler .
surprisingly P/H we were worth more .
i will always take that as a positive .
Don’t know if it’s still like that .
but there wouldn’t be much difference.

Wookie showed the total hours and they are way ahead

it’s why the arlc need to offer more content

we won’t ever match their hours but our value will make the difference

If there was any concern that the Murdoch media were ignoring the dud deal (not for them mind you) that the NRL got, then this headline in today`s The Australian certainly puts it front and centre just before season kick-off and certainly will put a dampener on the hype we are to be hearing about the new C.B.A and record funding for the clubs.

Media Buzz: $277 million gap between AFL and NRL revealed

The NRL has been boasting about making a $60 million surplus in 2022.
However rugby league’s revenue is still $277 million behind its main rival, the AFL. Figures reveal the AFL had an income of $870 million last year compared to the NRL’s $593 million.

This is before the AFL’s new $4.5 billion TV deal kicks in.

I just can`t see V`landy`s and the ARLC being happy about this at all, humiliated in fact, expect to see some changes leading up to 2028.

It is about total revenue and is correct, Not sure what issue they can have with a true story

Is it a coincidence that Perth red and Phil Rothfield share the same acronym? Australia’s worst sports journalist and LU’s biggest whinger?
