Please

show me where you get $40 million for the year in betting, somewhere in the past you had a figure of $82 m - which you now is incorrect, so show me how you arrive at $40m for the year 2022, like a proper source .?
$82mill was in the 2019 annual report as wagering and sponsorship
This SMH article in 2021 states wagering revenue of $40mill. Its probably gone up since then along with merch licensing but for some semblance of accuracy well use the figures from a few years ago weve got confirmed.

Domestic sports wagering has become an increasingly lucrative revenue raiser for the game, particularly during the lockdown period. It brought in $16 million in 2017, but that figure has grown to $40 million during the past league financial year.

Of course it can, it was literally announced incorporated in the AFLs media rights deal. That Telstra wasnt part of your media deal isnt my problem.

But if it helps you sleep, and in the absence of any specific figures for Fox in either code. the AFL media and telstra deals go up to 476m + 18.5m a year for Toyotas naming rights + whatever NAB are paying for AFLW naming rights....while the NRLs is reported at "over 400m pa" + 15m pa for Telstra (inclusive of naming rights for both NRL and NRLW) + whatever AMPOL pay for Origin naming rights.

There thats not at all confusing. lol.

TV rights is FTA + Pay TV

NRL includes some radio which also shouldn't be counted.

Why? Both codes include radio rights revenue in their respective lines.
In the media deals AFL sells its media rights separate from its TV and digital deal announcement
and in NRL 1/2 the rights value are included in the Ch9 deal announced.

Afl gets around $10mil a year for its radio rights

gee i guess all those press conference with Telstra, Fox and Seven CEOs were imaginary. f**k me.
You only need to look at the AFL press conferences to know that they dont consider it separate.

And neither did you guys until the NRL the current deal.

Cmon you are better than that.

When has AFL ever called it TV rights?

It is referred to as broadcast or media rights, Which is correct. Telstra getting revenue from AFL website is different to what the TV networks pay to show the sport on TV

Because this thread is about the TV Deal that NRL can expect next time around. Not the total broadcast deal.

So how much extra can FTA get?
How much can Pay TV increase.

Then compare it to the same for other codes and that gives you if it was a good deal or not

You raise an interesting point about if telstra is now paying nrl anything other than sponsorship money? They still have replay rights so presumably they are paying something? I haven’t seen any mention of them though in the extension announcements?

Well if we are just talking purely tv only then this year for us it’s
$402mill minus $5mill radio rights

so $397mill cash and contra (contra expected to be around $30mill)

for them
$473mill minus ?$50mill telstra = $423mill cash and contra

in the last deal our contra sat about $8mill a year more than theirs and we know there’s another $5mill contra from ch9 in the new $402mill nrl deal

i suspect the cash tv revenue is around $367mill nrl v $402mill afl this year. A gap of around $35mill

2025 that tv revenue gap will become somewhere in the region of $180million cash a year unless nrl can Renogtiate our deal Before 2028.

I’d be interested to know if telstra are paying afl $50mill now and even more come 2025 why when our digital revenue is only around $25mill income? Are telstra somehow making a lot more mOney from afl digital than we make from ours? Remembering that they’ve got costs to deliver on top of what they are paying afl.

Again I can only point to every joint press conference for the broadcast rights since 2002

If it was $409m last year ( with all the add ons) then that will be higher particularly when you add the Dolphins money but the deal itself was announced at $2b this deal. $1.8b last time. $430m would be closer to the mark.

$130m FTA
$30m NZ
$270m Fox

Seems more realistic

There are updates to Marvel going on right now, Certainly were included next deal but are they in this?

But lets go with Telstra only being $50m

Ch7 is roughly $140m because the 20% increase for the next deal is valued at $170m

Leaving Fox at $253m

The AFL deal runs to 2031 locked in. IF the NRL get to the 20 teams by then as planned then they close that gap and have a huge revenue base.

If Dolphins are worth $15-$20m
So would the other teams
Add in $10m or so for the extra games a week.

You are adding getting towards that figure, If the costs stay lower then the game is very well off at the same point in time

They announced a $2billion 5 year deal AFTER dolphins were announced. How can it be $430mill a year??

yes like I said if we get to 18 clubs for 2028 and 20 teams by 2033 and if we have competition in the bidding there is no reason nrl can’t achieve a $550mill Australian tv deal plus whatever skynz is paying by then. but it’s still a lot of ifs. And weve still dropped hundreds of millions behind afl in that period.

Fox was extended in May 2020, well before Dolphins came in.

A 17th team came in which changed the conditions of that deal, Why would it not cost more?

The announcement has said over $400m but never the actual total.

Extra content does that, The women's CBA calls for a 20 week comp, That will bring in more coin. Team 18 likely comes in during this
Deal too. So that cuts the difference too
