They aren’t that much better negotiators since they won’t break down their figures and are using padded contra to look good

fact is afl had to add the gather round and tasmania to get a decent increase

foxtwl is on the record as saying the failure of afl expansion is a concern to them

The last point is irrelevant to the first really.

I think it is pretty inarguable that they are clearly better negotiators than we are.

I said 115 mill is the cash amount for 9 ( or 575 mill for 5 years ), who cares when the contra was added, & the foxtel deal wouldn't be all cash either

that leaves us well short of 400 mill cash .... averaged ... out for 23-27

the word is average
thats the average amount each year

their deal will be way less then 643 mill in 2025 yes
but
ours will be way less then 400 mill in 2025 as well

thats how it works
& all that waffle above doesn't hide the fact that we were dudded

Where has the NRL said the total packafe

From the NRL website.

No where does it say an actual total? unlike the precise reporting from AFL.

If we go on 3% added each year.

That is $400m this year
2024 $413m
2025 $424m

And so on

You use the same formula for the $550m or so AFL got working backwards. There is not much between the 2, then remembering 4 years of their deal will be the new NRL TV deal

You are arguing different points mate.

Channel 9 have been awful for the game. Argue that.

Are ch9 making a profit from the game?

I say no, No FTA station would in this setup

Again comparing to ch7. They get exclusive setup of Crows into Adelaide. Or WC into Perth.

How more valuble would NRL rights be IF Ch9 had exclusive access to Broncos games.

Hell NBN could do Knights games etc.

They have Fox cutting into any chance of a profit for 80% of the games.

Take NRLW that is on now.
Ch9 has their own production team, commentators etc.

This timeslot maybe gets 200k? Commercials would be cheaper as opposed to prime time. Whereas Fox atleast can show these games into NRL games later tonight

There is no way this game alone makes a profit

In some ways they have to. For the 2023-2027 deal, the NRL had to scale back it's digital arm. Nine didn't want competition from the NRL in the digital space. Nine may not make a profit from NRLW, but it did force the NRL to make a sacrifice.

It looks pretty cheap, $150 million over five years, especially if it's simulcasted with Seven and Fox. Also women's origin is rating ok and most likely will go to a 3 match series.

Anyway, the NRL is currently in the first year of a five year deal. Too early to sign or negotiate anything.

In a nutshell, it is a Newscorp article, pushing for a deal to get done with Seven and Fox ASAP.
It's time we get another deal, who cares as long as it done for over $600m-$700m pa, sign away I say,

That was the narrative pushed, It was also the same time that NRL started scaling back costs.

So I think it helped both sides to do it

what are you talking about
Ch 9 clearly stated 15 mill of their 130 mill pa in our present deal is contra... & again , forget what we're at in 2027 with inflation

we're at 400 pa ... averaged out ... over the 5 years so we're at nowhere near 400 mill in 2023 in actual terms

fact is we're on a different planet in the deals
we're way behind , & we shouldn't be

in 2019 they were on 416 mill for 9 games a week
we were on 380 mill for 8 games a week

in 2025 they will be on 643 mill
we will be on something around 400 mill

we got dudded !!
The last reported year, when we both on old deals the NRL won the TV and STV deal. Forget about Dread and radio contra shit. Straight numbers in the accounting books say we won. Now new deal in operation and you erroneously say $473 for the AFL BUT we know Telstra (No a TV network, pays $50m so that means only $423 for the AFL , and we, NRL get over $400 pa ( not averaged at all) so we coming from last year win with a close finish for the next two years. Don't forget, the NRL can supplant this income of over $400m with internationals or other promotions, say Nines for example. So if we sign a monster deal now over and above the AFL deal, i say sign it.

Yep. So many people just look at the headlines and not look around for facts

What are you talking about? You’re swallowing the lies more than anybody else. You have essentially spent the past couple of pages as an apologist giving every reason under the sun why a sport that rates better should be treated worse than a sport that doesn’t rate as well.

You’re essentially accepting the fact that Channel 9 should treat the game like absolute shite and even promote the other game more forcefully than the one they hold or that Channel 7 heavily promote fumbleball everywhere and it’s not a big deal.

In essence you’re defending fumbleball getting better treatment than rugby league.

Nah if you need to lie then you aren’t the best

the cream always rises to the top

Everything is marketing mate. That is what capitalism is. Do you think for example that McDonald’s make the best food in the world?

Nah

if you need to lie then your product isn’t all that

we don’t need to lie the facts speak for themselves

on many metrics we are already number one so who cares about number two

Better liars

The other week, Gill did say that Qld will be an AFL state within 5 years. So in tv rights negotiations, fair chance they tell a few 'stories' so they could sell their game at a higher price.

Meanwhile our games administrators are naive and are instead listening to the broadcaster 'stories' from Nine and Fox.

Care to point out what was wrong with my posts?

I broke down the figures, as they are actively available, What was wrong with it?

No I am saying a FTA station will do what they can to make money.

Ch7 is so far ahead of ch9 that of course they will try and get the AFL crowd on board
