The socio-economics demographics of your average Rugby League fan is a major factor as well, throw in the lack of a truly national competition, if we fix those two the lack of space for television adverts becomes a lot less significant.
Don’t agree so much

I think in Australia league fans have at least average or above average income dominating the richest state in nsw and especially being Sydney centric

there was a report that showed over 60 percent of sports advertising was spent in areas which are rugby league strongholds

Western sydney is what they want, its what Packer coveted and cricket and league gave him reach into this area.

How much is due to the old boys club in Rugby though?

Yep it plays a big part too

but we as a sport have a lot to blame as well

players were absolute idiots for years

league should realise it’s a major sport and get paid accordingly

I think they are starting to make up the ground lost during Super League.

Being attractive to sponsors and being value for money with TV stations aren't always the same though

Both categories they are getting unders

reality is our tv deal should be way more than afl and it’s not

and we underperform afl a long way in sponsors

the current leadership are doing the rights things and heading that game in the right direction

I have listed reasons why AFL should be more.

Sponsorship would be the same. You have private schoolboys on boards of these companies, Who put their dollars elsewhere.

20 year period to make up from

Minimal uplift for cricket expected. If they ignore ten / paramount, it potentially benefits NRL as they will be (even more) desperate for a genuine code to anchor their offerings.

Not really, both AFL and cricket turned down the extra money. There must be some issue with Ten/Paramount

All we need is another bidder for the pay tv rights ie stan or paramount

then we get market value for our pay tv rights which is probably significantly above anyone else

like spark in nz bidding for the nrl rights right away led to sky paying more

Given Stan is owned by ch9 then they will be around. Rugby went backwards on that platform NRL like AFL and Cricket may not take the best money deal.

So look forward to the haters saying it was undersold for years to come

I can wait ten years to be proven right doesn’t bother me

let the afl fans enjoy their moment in the spotlight

let see once League is expanding

afl has thrown billions at expansion and the results have been mixed at best

The Telstra component will always be included and as such creates unrealistic expectations for NRL

Well get around one hundred million more than now so 530 million

extra 50 million for clubs sees the salary cap well over 15 million

then by the time the next deal gets done the real impact of the dolphins and Perth will be shown in the tv rights

ARLC will ignore Ch10/Paramount+ for the same reasons AwFuL and CA refused to deal with them.

Our game will be given to News Ltd and Ch9.

If you take it out it still sits at around $580mill plus in all likelihood for Australian tv deal.
compared to our $365 million that our next 5 year Australian part of the tv deal is worth that is a shed load of difference, even you’d be hard pressed to justify that gap if that is what it ends up being!

The NRL is over $400m. How much over is the question.

AFL for the next 2 seasons sits at $473m ( including Telstra)

That now includes the extra round of Magic Round thrown in for free ( maybe @The_Wookie can confirm? Maybe I missed the extra TV money )

Very minimal gap if any for the crossover years, That is even better deal for AFL TV now that the extra round is added

What extra content NRL can provide will see how close they get to the unknown TV only rights of AFL's new deal
