AFL?s TV rights deal makes NRL CEO Dave Smith?s Channel Nine agreement look like an ?own goal?

Presto, thanks to the program acquiring strength of Foxtel and Seven, has the best and most recent range of content of any of the SVOD services."
first deal in two decades where News Corp didn't have f&l rights and they throw a massive tantrum, Gilligan fell arse backwards into a massive deal motivated by News Corps resentment toward the NRL for their deal with 9.
In saying that I still have a nagging feeling of doubt about whether the NRL get what they want.
Perhaps the NRL never intended on scraping MNF, as early reports of 5-nights a week suggested, and Smith is just playing a gigantic bluff trying to force News Corp to pay through the nose for its return? essentially taking something away from them to make them pay up to get it back, rather than just allowing them to take it for granted.
Somewhat related, the fear is everywhere

:sarcasm::lol::lol:
That's certainly the view of prominent media analyst (and league commentator) Ray Hadley, as we discovered during our morning trip on the Murrays bus.
"I think Mr Murdoch is simply tormenting the NRL," said Hadley on his 2GB morning radio show. "At the end of the day, in my opinion, Fox needs the NRL much more than the NRL needs Fox."

Ummm, do you think the shoulder charge fiasco is going to earn someone a promotion ? Obviously unrelated to the broadcast rights, but there will be heads rolling for the judiciary mess.
Haha the VFL has their big deal and it's all doom and gloom for the NRL and Rugby League in general supposedly yet all they are talking about is Rugby Leagues TV deal. You can see deep down they are very worried and you can also see it by reading any of their forums/blogs/AFL press releases of how much they are obsessing over a so called sport they have supposedly just crushed by constantly having to look over their shoulder at the big bad RL and justify what they got and supposedly how much better their deal is before they even know what the other has got.
Wow what delusion, the FTA deal already favours the NRL as we all know, fox will come to the party because they need content, we have international rights and NZ with sky sports and all the other stuff to go with it, how the hell couldn't the NRL make it up?
The VFL has no Internationals to sell, NZ will not give them $5 let alone the 100 million the NRL already gets from them in the current deal and this is all without mentioning the expansion word that not a single fumbler has mentioned because they are either thick, or they know deep down the NRL is in the box seat and will make News pay for any expansion they will want because of extra content and an exclusive game they might pay to slot in somewhere.
(Tell uncle Rupes if he doesn't pay $2 billion for the NRL pay TV rights and make a public apology on the Footy show to all Rugby League fans about what he stated and the way his company has treated the fans of the game over the last 20 years, he can stick it where the sun don't shine and if he thinks he can get the rights next time, the starting price is $4 Billion just for him, and a discount for anyone else)
