Haha the VFL has their big deal and it's all doom and gloom for the NRL and Rugby League in general supposedly yet all they are talking about is Rugby Leagues TV deal. You can see deep down they are very worried and you can also see it by reading any of their forums/blogs/AFL press releases of how much they are obsessing over a so called sport they have supposedly just crushed by constantly having to look over their shoulder at the big bad RL and justify what they got and supposedly how much better their deal is before they even know what the other has got.

Wow what delusion, the FTA deal already favours the NRL as we all know, fox will come to the party because they need content, we have international rights and NZ with sky sports and all the other stuff to go with it, how the hell couldn't the NRL make it up?

The VFL has no Internationals to sell, NZ will not give them $5 let alone the 100 million the NRL already gets from them in the current deal and this is all without mentioning the expansion word that not a single fumbler has mentioned because they are either thick, or they know deep down the NRL is in the box seat and will make News pay for any expansion they will want because of extra content and an exclusive game they might pay to slot in somewhere.

(Tell uncle Rupes if he doesn't pay $2 billion for the NRL pay TV rights and make a public apology on the Footy show to all Rugby League fans about what he stated and the way his company has treated the fans of the game over the last 20 years, he can stick it where the sun don't shine and if he thinks he can get the rights next time, the starting price is $4 Billion just for him, and a discount for anyone else)

I really think this is the fork in the road moment for the NRL, try and get a deal done with Fox knowing they will be actively promoting a rival code, or start talking to Google about a subscriber YouTube channel and revenue sharing model. Streaming may not be quite there yet, but that's where we are heading, maybe we should just get their earlier.

Once upon a time the Fumble Fairy was inspecting the gloryholes in the MCG boggers when he came across an ugly troll who was crying.

"What's wrong?" said the Fumble Fairy.

"The Rugby League King was mean to me," wailed the hideous beast. "When I told him I wanted to buy his sport for a handful of magic beans he told me to f**k off. All I ever wanted was to gut his sport and f**k its corpse so I could get the TV rights for nothing. I don't know why he doesn't like me."

The Fumble Fairy frowned and replied, "Never fear my sweet hideous little monster. I will grant you a magic wish. If you give me hundreds of millions of dollars for something you were going to buy anyway, I will help slay the King."

"Haven't you been trying to do that for the past 30 years," replied the miserable little merkin.

"Yeah but now you can help me by getting your hacks to write shitty articles in the Daily Telegraph."

The ugly troll smiled. "Gee whiz, I never thought of that before. Thanks Fumble Fairy."

One week later the troll died from syphilis contracted from an Asian prostitute.

I hope the clubs aren't stupid enough to push Smith on this. What's to stop news using the broncos to try and pressure the other clubs.

The aFL and Murdoch a match made in heaven.
Both can be bought for money with morals that insult a alley cat.
One a sport that's homophobic, sexist and racist and elephant juice friendly
The other a man who is such a proud Australian he gives it up to become a yank in his pursuit of money.

After the initial excitment of the TV deal some on bigfooty are seeing the bigger picture and that bigger picture is when Murdoch says jump the aFL will say how high.
When Murdoch wants to schedule a game kicking off at midday he will and the aFL won't have any control over it.
The aFL in its obsession for money has clearly put its fans second

every league fan is entitled to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude over this. owning our schedule and having incremental changes such as sunday origins and one less round augers well. the next tv deal will have expansion built in, further international games and a proper rep schedule.

afl is stretched like an elastic band, a well paid one though. when the fisting is complete and they have pissed millions up the wall in nsw and qld for zero gain, the club infighting will begin in earnest and the wastelands of the gabba, spotless and metricon will be monuments of their downfall.
