This is why i reckon NRL people should start a public war...

These articles make me (and i imagine you lot too) hate NewsLtd and in turn makes me feel protective of RL. Its something that NRL should be harnessing
I reckon we're all pretty pissed at them mate, but it'd be bad strategy for the NRL to do that. They've got to play the long game. But time is on their side too

When your enemy is flailing about without landing a punch, let him tire.

He either makes a mistake or opens himself up.

I just worry that some people actually believe this...

News has been runnig the "game in crisis" narritive for a long time and even some people on here get caught up in bits and pieces of it.

When i as "go to war with News", i dont mean write bullshit articles about how shit they are. Just frame all of their campaigns as being anti-RL even when they pretend to have the games interests at heart...

What i find interesting is no negations for two years. I was thinking of putting a report together Approach NRL HQ. The thrust was about the streaming rights which Telstra is to pay ABOVE 300 million, i was thinking 500 million ,, however this deal (if at all, Telstra is desperate to get ) has to go after the Pay Tv deal. What you forget is Tesltra is the other half of foxtel. The NRL should state we don't care Fox Sports (wholly owned sub News Corp ) wants to buy, it goes straight to Foxtel after being bought . If you want streaming (supposedly they want to drop naming rights /but who cares f**k off).. APPROACH Lion Nanthon owners Tootheys new blue and XXXX Premiership
Again Telstra are desperate to have the streaming rights, i use it to watch NRL on my Tablet, 3 dollars a week, , i digress, so no deal Telstra ( they are launching a product Telstra TV and want NRL with is the most streamed product in Australia.

Fox Sports should have to ‘fair price’ for the NRL pay tv rights referenced against the ALF deal one billion should be the deal sought. Telstra pays 400 million for streaming. 1.4 Plus 800 nine (simulcast) gives the NRL 2.2 billion. I am OK with that. Is it possible? As I posted before Mascord seems to say negations are called off. The key to any deal with Fox sports is the streaming rights. If you can demonstrate that you can go it alone.I will write more about the options PARRA 20 MANLY 16 15 TO GO

If ESPN got NRL rights... Foxtel could just kick them off the platform...

What are they gonna do, roll out 1 million satelite dishes, cable etc..

we are still 5+ years away from internet broadcast quality tv

As if there would be a Foxtel without the NRL.

They'd lose their core subscribers overnight.

No we're not, this service is available to a lot of people already.

Netflix is increasing demand for these types of services. ISPs will be forced to respond or the customer moves to a better service.

If us NRL fans are gonna have a crack at every afl person who says. "Our TV deal is 2.5 times as big as nrl "

We need to acknowledge that we can't compare fox ratings between nrl and afl ...

A lot of their games are simulcast by different states.

So the swans v giants would have been shown nationally on fox and in Sydney on seven mate.

Do we honestly think if last night's game was shown on fox and CH 9 at the same time it would still get 340k viewers on fox ??

The #1 rated AFL game on Foxtel this season (#12 of top 100) was a simulcast CH7 match (Sydney v Collingwood). I would think most would still watch the Fox coverage in the NRL last night. Maybe even more watch it on simulcast Fox e.g. if you forgot it was on then saw it on CH9 and you had Fox knowing all games were simulcast I would switch it over.

In addition NRL v AFL fox rating comparisons should be made. Based on those shit ratings in the AFL yesterday the local FTA broadcasts are still part of their new deal. If they get $1.4billion from Fox then so should we (especially when the Storm won't be Live into Melbourne no matter what).

Not the Commissioners or anyone important, i mean the clubs should be doing it to rally the fans agaisnt a common enemy...

Someone like Gus would be perfectly places to do it.

The fact of the matter is, is that if Rupert doesn't have NRL on Fox he's looses shit loads of money, and he knows this.
Come on uncle open up your wallet for the NRL.

Why would foxtel kick them off? to get espn you would still need foxtel.

No you don't. ESPN is available on the much cheaper Fetch TV through Optus along with all those doco channels on Fox.

Furthermore, ESPN doesn't have any exclusivity contracts with Fox and could be picked up by other providers too.

that's still no reason to kick them off, foxtel would only be hurting themselves.

if ESPN were to get the rights I doubt it would remain the same price it is now on Fetch.

Uncle rupert also knows he has 2 years to make a deal. In that time he is going to do everything in his power to delay a deal and have smith outed. That's my concern.

Hopefully smith has the boards full support though this.

I'm sure you're right, but Fetch would still be cheap as dirt itself at only $10 a month for basic, so ESPN would have to jump their price pretty massively for it to approach a HD Foxtel package with sports.

Fox could still keep ESPN of course and likely still would, but for those of us who don't give a f**k about AFL and don't want to pay all that extra cash we'd have an option to go elsewhere.

THAT is what Murdoch is going so geniused over.

What if NRL just produces their own channel for 4 games a week, have an NRL app available on;

Apple TV
Chromecast
Fetch
Roku
Etc

How much could they realistically charge / month ?
