Difficult one, you need to build the salary up assuming realises potential like they did with Cleary, but right now after 2 x full 1st grade games to lock him in with what he could show.or become. 250-300K incl TPA'a that Dragons have an abundance of. :p But in 3 years time if he looks the good and starts to realise that potential then that will double +. Lot of money for an 18 year old but when the minimum salary for a journeyman is now (or was 80K) or now abt 110K

Interesting point isn't it.

Do we sign him up long term but at what price? or will his manager, knowing the salary cap will increase every year, keep him to 2 or 3yr contracts so as to get the most out of him.

Signing him now to 600 or 700k is a huge risk for both parties, and not to mention as a centre that's big money.

Just out of curiosity, what value would you guys place on Lomax right now?

Haha, he’s worth shit loads.
Guessing his extension bumped him up around the $300k mark?
Not bad for an 18yo.
The genuis that extended him until the end of 2020 take a bow.

Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways and List Management Ian Millward didn't shy away from Lomax's budding prospects in the years to come.

"Zac is one of the most promising players to come through our ranks in many years. He's a player we look at building this team around in the long-term because we think he has all the attributes to be an outstanding NRL player," Millward said.

"We do look at him as a long-term centre and we don't hide that fact at all. Although this is just an extension to 2020, we look at Zac as if he'll be a 10-year player for the Dragons and challenge for higher representatives.

Quite wise actually from both parties. Locking him in now would only stifle his earning capacity going forward.

With salary cap increases and other unknown changes to earning capacity extending to 2020 not only keeps the wolves away until Nov next year but also gives us a chance to assess the cap, and his performances.

It wouldn't surprise me if we have an announcement mid-way through next year of a 5yr (taking him through to 2025) deal worth $3.5m+. Not bad money for a centre and still only 25yrs old.

Lomax is signed till the end of 2020. We should budget for the following on a contract extension of 5 years:
2021 - 450k p/a
2022 - 500k p/a
2023 - 600k p/a
2024 - 700k p/a
2025 - 800k p/a

The old back ended contracts. Brought manly and the Dogs undone. There would have to be performance and representative disclaimers in there to pay that money. Geez in 2025 800K might be the players average wage. ;)

I’d also like to drop 20kgs, regrow hair and get lucky tonight, but I’m reality, none of those things are going to occur.

Dreams usually aren’t realistic.
Get a good exercise routine going and stick to it. Something high intensity, like boxing training or Tae Bo should do the trick, but you have to stick to it. If you do so, then losing 20kgs shouldn't be a problem.

Go to Asia and eat freshly cooked Cobra and drink its blood, then you should be able to grow your hair back.

As for getting lucky tonight, sorry, I don't have any advice for you. Maybe take some kind of dating/pickup course? Or join Tinder.

As for dreams not being realistic, I believe that signing Bennett and him bringing those players with him is very realistic. If I was CEO, it would probably already have been a fait accompli.

I will also add that most successful people had dreams of success. They visualise themselves being successful, having the things that they desire and doing the things that they wish to do. Maybe you should give it a go? Sometimes successful people are asked, did you ever dream that you would have this much success, and they reply, that they did. A guy named Napoleon Hill wrote one of the first self help, improvement books that I know of. It was called Think And Grow Rich. Part of his advice was to visualise success. Everything starts with an idea.

We can sign Bennett right now. If we do so, Brisbane would release him a year early and we would have Bennett as our coach next year. Pangai and Oates are both unsigned and both have expressed their desire to continue to play under Bennett. So if we signed Bennett, him bringing Oates and Pangia is quite possible. Joey Leilua could say that he wants to be closer to his family (who are from the StGeorge district) and he could also say that he wants to play with his brother. I think this scenario is very possible, as long as we sign Bennett and sack Mary.

I was actually watching this video on Youtube just before I wrote my reply to you, Watch this and the other one, which I watched last night from the same person.

Sorry to sound like a damp squib but it feels to me that there are some premature ejaculations being posted on the Lomax front. Yes, he's played a bit of NRL- yes he's kicked a few goals- yes he's got Freddy interested- but junior rep standouts don't always make it at the senior level. Jacob Host was selected in the Australian Schoolboys in 2014 and hasn't really kicked on. I'd want to see more from him before declaring him the Messiah and offering him this world (he'd already have the next).

Point noted but lomax is more of a no brainer.... at least as much a prospect for first grade as jack bird was...

His girlfriend however should be given a 10 year contract. She's the goods for sure.

Not a back-ended contract, just realistic estimate on what he should be worth as he develops. Something like this shows Lomax that we plan to keep him happy and long term. All NRL contracts these days have cpi and salary cap adjustments in their contracts. Also I would say that if Lomax is moved to the fullback position, you can put 100k the above annual salaries.

If planned properly, salaries can be planned to meet our salary cap. Millward just needs to get a computer and XL spreadsheet - move the whiteboard to just outside the CEO's office.

I fully agree with you if eitkin
Misses a tackle these great biased dragons supporters wil tear strips of him but kurt Manns ok to miss tackles and the other love child nightingale ok to Let a mass amount of tries in his corner but hang on they wil tel u it' eitkin s fault that nightingale wing spot leaked about 50 tries this year , eitkin is near impossible to stop close to the line his low to the ground and contrary to what some great supporters think of his defence I've also seen him smash players in defence
Unfortunately Aitken was the golden child for a number of years....a home bred junior who was going to be anything, however, his raw power and strength has not been matched by a growing sense of the game or his ability to make correct defensive reads. He probably is a little on the short side for the modern form of winger. He is a bit of a tragedy at the moment....an expensive one. The first 6 to 8 games next year will determine the direction and future of his career.

He will be no fullback. Centre his position for life. Just dont think he has the speed, build (especially when grows a bit) and running style for the modern day f/back.

I was a big supporter of Aitken in his early first grade years and yes, it was his strength and raw power that impressed me. Now I understand that he has the following shortfalls for a regular first grader:
  1. He is very suspect under a high ball.
  2. He has shown he also finds it difficult to turn and run to gather a deep kick.
  3. He has very poor defensive reads; although I believe the coach should share blame for this problem.
  4. He is reluctant to pass the ball and when he does pass, it is to a player in an impossible position.

Without an instensive coaching program by a new coach, it is my opion that Aitken does not have a future in the NRL.

Lomax would do better then most in our team in there postion
, he would be a better fullback than dufty, better centre then aitken and would teach mccinnes a thing or two about playing hooker ... but i believe he will be playing wing, centre for next couple years before makeing the inevitable transition to the no 6 after widdops retirement/sacking( whatever comes first).. build a team around him and comps will won

I'm of the opinion that Lomax's long term future is at fullback but let's see how it all goes. I also think we have Field and a couple of others who will progress in 2019 to be first grade contenders and if they don't, they should be cut him from the squad and go to the market for a player who has had first grade experience at five-eighth. A few things were glaringly obvious this season:
  1. Mann is not our alternate five-eighth.
  2. Field was not ready to step up this season.
The positions of halfback and five-eighth are so important that it is not good enough to have substitutes that are unable to step in times that our first choice halves are not available.
