Steelers extended Pouncey, re-signed Foster, picked up options on BJ Finney and Matt Feiler. Best OL group in the league back for another year, good place to be. It was thought Munchak might try and sign one or two.

Nice deal that for Pouncey.... makes him the highest paid centre in the league.

People often scoff at paying a center big money but it’s one of the most undervalued positions in the game.

I remember about 10years ago I was lucky enough through my job to talk to Riki Ellison... who was an ex LB for the Niners & Raiders and his son Rhet plays in the league for the Vikings I think...

One of the things Riki explained was how important your center is.

I was very new to the NFL but he explained that if you get an elite center you will make life infinitely easier for your QB.

Especially when the C & QB really start gelling... a top class C will often handle pressure/blitz recognition which allows the QB to focus on the coverages the defence is throwing at him.

If you don’t have a good C then it all falls on the QB to recognise pressure and also coverages...

And Pouncey is one of the VERY best...
