Donte Whitner | FS 2010 Team: Buffalo Exp: 5 years

Analysis: Whitner will be playing for the 49ers, the Sacramento Bee is reporting.

"Its official...49ers it is! Funny how God works...instead of playing against the 9ers I'm playing w/ the 9ers..." Whitner tweeted on Thursday.

It appeared to be a change of heart for the safety, who had reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Bengals earlier on Thursday.

Whitner had spent his entire five-year career in Buffalo, where he picked off five passes for the Bills, who selected the safety with the No. 8 overall selection in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Derrick Mason | WR 2010 Team: Baltimore Exp: 14 years

Analysis: The veteran Mason, let go by the Ravens, was scheduled to visit the New York Jets on Wednesday, according to the Star-Ledger.

In a move that might help indicate the Jets' intentions at the wide receiver spot, the team has released Jerricho Cotchery.

Jordan Babineaux | FS 2010 Team: Seattle Exp: 7 years

Analysis: Babineaux will join the Titans, The Tennesseean reported via Twitter on Thursday. The former Seahawks safety's agent told The Tennesseean that Babineaux will sign a one-year deal and took less money go to to Tennessee because of the team's defensive coordinator, Jerry Gray.

Babineaux has spent his entire seven-year career in Seattle, was a member of the team's Super Bowl XL squad and picked off 10 passes in that span.

Jason Snelling | RB 2010 Team: Atlanta Exp: 4 years

Analysis: Snelling was traveling to New York on Sunday night to meet with the Giants, sources told NFL.com senior writer Steve Wyche and NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.

Snelling, a reliable backup to Michael Turner for four seasons in Atlanta, has more than two teams, including the Falcons, interested in him.

ProFootballTalk.com cited a league source in reporting that the running back also has received interest from the Bengals, but they brought back Cedric Benson on Sunday, so it's unknown if they're still in the mix.

PFT also noted that the St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently linked Snelling to the Rams as a possible backup to Steven Jackson.

Scout.com, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reported that Snelling worked out for the Chiefs on Wednesday.

Malcom Floyd | WR 2010 Team: San Diego Exp: 5 years

Analysis: Floyd is close to choosing whom he'll play for this season, and he has quite a few options, league sources told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora on Wednesday.

Floyd's old team, the Chargers, are competing with the Ravens, Panthers, Cardinals and 49ers, among others. The Star Tribune reported Tuesday that the Vikings also are in the hunt for Floyd.

Floyd caught a career-high six touchdown passes last season.

Shaun Ellis can still get after the QB too. Shocked he hasn't been signed.

Me too...Shaun Ellis is still a decent player. Surprised the Broncos haven't made a move.

Jerricho is a decent WR and would be a great pick up for any team needing a #2-#3 guy. He'd be wise to move to maybe KC, Chargers, Ravens, Cardinals or Miami.

"Now that J. Cotchery is a former Jet, watch forPhilip Rivers to push for the Chargers to sign him. They're lifelong friends."

id be happy with that if we lost Floyd.

but id rather have both.

Also Ricky Sapp placed on Reserve/Left Squad list and officially announce signings of Anthony Hargrove and Derek Landri

Just for Raider.

lol. How much depth they have it is ridiculous.

"Oh our 2nd string DE has gone down. lets just replace him with starters from another team"

Redskins lack a punter, Sav Rocca needs a work visa

The Washington Redskins are without a punter, as Sav Rocca is back home in Australia and waiting for his application for a work visa to be processed.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he expects the situation to get straightened out soon — and said he’d like to see Rocca marry an American if that’s what it takes.
“He’s got a job here in the U.S.,” Shanahan said. “Eventually they’ll let him go or, at least, I’m hoping they let him go. If not, I told him to get married to an American and that’ll make it easier.”
Australia’s Courier Mail pointed out that Rocca already has a wife in Australia, so that’s probably not a viable option.
The 37-year-old Rocca was a star in the Australian Football League before signing with the Eagles in 2007. After four years in Philadelphia he signed with the Redskins last week.

49ers have some good players to work with on their offence. They are a good QB away from being a pretty dangerous team I reckon.

True but there are injury issues there.

IMO they need a good slot receiver.

I'd like to see them get Brandon Stokley.

Having Crabtree and Braylon as 1 and 2.

Stokley in the slot, Davis at TE and Gore at RB would be very good.

Particularly with Iupati and Davis maturing in their 2nd year.

That free's up Josh Morgan to be a #4 WR where imo he is at right now.

Edwards is a dumb signing, they need WR's sure but he's got terrible hands and no QB to throw it to him.

Whitner is a very very good signing though

Whitner will tackle but is a liability in coverage.

He got beat badly by like a heap of TE's last year.

But he is very smart and has a great knowledge for the game. Buffalo teammates always said that.

So the leadership he'll provide with no Nate Clements there will help the DB's.

Edwards had bad hands at the Browns but imo that is one area he improved massively at the Jets.
