WORST: Got called in an hour and a half early today for a meeting that took all of five minutes, and speaking tests continue

BEST: One of my Korean co-workers offered to take my last class of the day for no apparent reason. Yay!

BEST: Christmas tomorrow

WORST: Our boss cancelled the Christmas market (where kids trade in stickers they've earned for good behaviour for candy/treats) at the last minute and my last present from Mum didn't arrive in time :(

BEST: Mum really pulled out all stops in making sure I had a good Christmas. New games, expensive new sweaters, Australian candy, Australian memorabilia, decorations, Aussie food.... The fact postage alone cost her almost $300 should give some indication of how crazy she went

WORST: My PC chose to die at 3am this morning, after Mum and the family had gone to the trouble of buying a webcam so I could see a live webcast of the family Christmas. I kicked the mother-f**king sh*t out of that merkin

BEST: The weekend is less than six hours away, New Year's is around the corner, and I just found out I have a week vacation the day after I get my new PC monster :)

WORST: Work is becoming an absolute farce. I'm not allowed to fail students for poor marks (I re-test them until they pass), I've been given the two worst classes in the school after my work-mate couldn't handle them, and we're not given any power to discipline trouble students.

My birthday is tomorrow & having some friends come down for it so it will be nice :)

BEST: Just got back from an awesome New Year's night out with my new mates.

WORST: Have developed a hopeless crush on one of said mates. She hits all of the categories on my 'dream girl' scale, but I can't see it going anywhere.

WORST: My incompetant boss had us all in for a meeting at 11am (we usually start at 2.30). The meeting didn't start until 12.30 because he wasn't prepared. It was then conducted entirely in Korean, so the two Western teachers were bored. Lunch, usually provided after meetings, arrived an hour late while we were all in class. On top of that, he's instituted a restructure that has us working half an hour longer a day without any extra pay.

BEST: Two and a half hour break in the middle of the day. It's both awesome and annoying.

The time difference between Thailand and Australia can't be that different, surely? I know I'm two hours behind Australia.

BEST: Pay day this week means I should finally be able to buy a gaming PC

WORST: My work situation is becoming unbearable, but I'm in a bad position. I can't take a new contract at a rival school because they are a default of twelve months and I need to be home for my sister's wedding - but quitting and flying home would mean reimbursing the flight over and basically ruling out any future ventures here.

The kids are the part of my job that I love. There's a few trouble-makers, of course - but that's more than made up for. Today, for example, I was given a wrapped gift by one child (who I didn't even teach today) and I had another student write a story about how nice I am.

It's just that the place is poorly run and the boss is cheap. We have 300 students (which is huge for a private school) and only two foreign teachers - which means we're teaching ten to eleven classes of 6-13 a day, without breaks, and we're writing reports and sitting exams for 150 kids each every two months.

The cause for today's outburst was my boss deciding that, since we have paid vacation next week, we'd work extra hours this week (without breaks) *and* we'd have until Friday to submit progress reports we can't start until Wednesday. Thankfully, after both of us threatened to disappear over the break, he pulled his head in and gave us an extension 'until we're done'.
