NFT- Movies That Blew You Away

I saw 'Eternal Sunshine Of a Spotless Mind' today and it blew me away. I don't think I've ever just sat in awe-struck silence following a movie, until today. Seriously, without a doubt one of the finest movies I've ever seen.

So, my question is, what movies have really blown you away?

To get the ball rolling I'd suggest:
- Dawn of the Dead remake
- Punch Drunk Love
- Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind

House of 1000 Corpses really knocked me around a bit.

The Directors Cut of The Butterfly Effect had me bawling at the end when he killed himself.

I was blown away by Heat when I first saw it. One scene in particular. The whole shoot out scene after they rob the bank. The sound and camera work was awesome. I'm a big Arnon Milchan fan - he's made some great movies (and a couple of shockers, ie Freddy Got Fingered).

I was blown away by Life is Beautiful...an amazing film. I am not big into war movies but i saw a few at the pictures and they blew me away like saving private ryan and black hawk down.

The usual suspects was another and the sixth sense. Nobody blabed the endings to me so I was wowed out.

After i first saw black hawk down at the cinemas i was amazed, it is just non stop war the whole way through.

We were soldiers is similar but not as intense as black hawk down.

'Being John Malkovich' was pretty good.

'As good as it gets'

My all time favourite was called 'Geordie' and was about a Scottish hammer thrower at the Melbourne Olympics. A classic moment when he did his gold medal throw. I even read the book after seeing the movie, and that was good as well.

'Shine' was the best ever Australian movie. You can't get it on DVD anymore. I tried to get it to show my last girlfriend, but couldn't get it anywhere (must be why we broke up - or was it me being a drunken asshole - one of them - can't remember).

I agree with les on 'La Vita Bella', that was one of the most powerful movies I've ever seen. I'm still searching for a copy on DVD, so I can say I own it.

If you liked 'Being John Malkovich', roopy, you'll really enjoy 'Eternal Sunshine'. Same vein, but far more emotionally tangible- if that's your thing. Still haven't seen 'Shine'. Sheesh!

Showing my age here BUT- both Apocalypse Now and the Deer Hunter left me depressed and feeling quite disturbed for weeks.

Probebly Forrest Gump... and The Lion King. Just the animation in it, there is definalty more skill in that than in computered movies.

Pretty much every cartoon has a meaning, and I love pretty much all Disney cartoons, however none have touched me and made me cry as much as The Lion King.

'Eternal Sunshine...' is f***ing brilliant - i cant wait to get it on DVD and digest it a bit more...you are right Chris - I sat there well through the credits in awe of the film.

All of Kauffman's movies are fantastic - 'Being John Malkovich' and 'Adaptation' rule.

Other films...'Memento' is an amazing film - beautifully made - I still dont know if I really get it. 'High Fidelity' for the music and constantly making top 5 lists (one of my fave activities). 'Big Fish' and 'Mystic River' are the first movies in a long time to really get to me.

But the king of all movies is 'Shawshank Redemption' - an amazing film that I never ever get sick of watching.
