only history will judge what sort of deal it was. I have seen Burro the Burrito at close range and my instinct is he couldn't organise a banjo at a bluegrass festival.

But one thing that's pretty clear. Guys like palmer and tinkler are bad for Australian sport, because they put their importance and oversized egos ahead of the greater good.

I do feel sorry for any fans that lose their team. Maybe they can start a new soccer team up there or get one off the ground in canberra like the old cosmos.

And let the team be owned by the people who actually go to the game.

It is the most played sport in Australia by a country mile (and of course the world). It is the most watched sport in the world. I don't think the sport itself has anything to do with it not being successful. (assuming you were suggesting Australians won't watch soccer?)

I agree with pretty much everything you said though, and nobody likes to see simulation, it's a real black mark on the code.

The problem for the A-League is competition, and not just from league and AFL but Soccer itself (football). The 'A-league' product is crap because the A-League cannot attract decent players, there is too much money in it globally. The best Australians will play overseas and the best overseas players won't come here. It makes it hard to compete when the AFL and the NRL are the premier competitions in the world within their code..... the A-league wouldn't be in the top 50 football comps in the world. The only way the A-League will ever be strong nationally and internationally is with the kind of money guys like Tinks would only dream of seeing.

I am a big soccer fan, but don't watch the A-League at all. It is a weak product doomed to mediocracy from the outset. Park football on tv really.

Can't say I'm shocked though.
The Fat Bloke would be angry at the FFA running and financing the Western Sydney mob.

The Jets will exist next year. This is what he initially did with the Knights. Took his ball and went home until he got his way.

As for the differences in acquisition fees, surely a businessman of his "quality" could negotiate a deal?!?

When you think of the amount of money thrown at the administrators in the FFA, Buckely is apparently close to the loud bloke in the AFL in money terms, and the stupid amount spent on the World CVup bid, we chould not be surprised that there is no confidence.

This does suck. Interesting that most of the blame is going towards Tinkler rather than the FFA. Tinkler did a great thing for them and Newcastle, as he's doing for the Knights.

However, I hope a Newcastle team sticks around for any top soccer league we have in Australia.
