We won ... so a lot of issues in the game get easily overlooked ..

The key issue was the distance that hunt was kicking tactically for a lot of the game ... Taking kicks inside your own half after a set of 6 is a sign of shit go forward. When nighty takes one or two hit ups a set coming out of defence he will tick up some decent metres by sheer volume of carries but the result is two fold ... Minimal metres on that carry then a slow play the ball. That then means that the next hit up is into a set defensive line and yields insufficient metres again. So Nighys's carries give poor metres on his and the next hit up.

The net result was hunt kicking from 50-60 out and finding Tedesco all too often. That meant the roosters making it to our 30 for their end of set kick and piling more pressure on us.

However, we won and nighty made 220 metres so this doesn't get any attention.

we just smile and whistfully think of what a great finisher and team man he is.

Our kick returns are poor because we only have one player with size in the back 3 now.

It is time.
Might be... But it won't happen.
The club won't do it.

We will get by and nighty won't cause any tragic loss in any game. Well that's what I believe

Nighty was a big part of our victory.

Those 2 bombs he defused, the run he made out of the in goal and the run he made prior to Hunt’s try.

I shudder to think of Lomax or Garrick under those bombs.

Not only does he not cost us any points, he was key to our victory.

I know he will eventually need to be replaced but not off the back of that performance.

I'd be more concerned about Lafai before nighty. Its only a matter of time before his repeated drop balls cost us an important game. Lafai needs to shape up, his error rate is just too high.

And there are some people on here who turn a blind eye to the obvious all on the back of 1 stellar game which are few and far between these days.
He can put in some good steady football but the assumption that a younger faster player can’t do that and more is merely sticking your head in the sand.
When Nighty gets the ball in the clear with 10 seconds on the clock and a try will win the game but he is run down despite a clear passage to the line you will all be harsh critics then believe you me.
To make the change is difficult for some supporters but to do it before it costs you dearly is using your big head according to Brownie
Too much love and not enough logic in this matter.
All players have strengths and weaknesses, every single one of them, Flo doesn't have many weaknesses, in fact I'd say has less weaknesses than 80% of the players in the comp. He is still good enough, if we look at speed then Prior (Sharks) for example would have to retire, Ben Creagh was a winger, sure he may have lost some speed but not much to be honest, but what about other areas he has actually improved on?

Your arguments re Prior and Creagh are irrelevant other than the fact Creagh progresses to the forwards when he slowed on the wing, maybe you think that is where Nighty should go
You and others obviously have no vision as to improving the team because whilst we win you will cut and paste the team and when we lose if Nighty is involved you will find comfort in some heroic deed he was involved in from long ago
Our Midel T will be coming up against some Ferrari’s shortly so let’s have a discussion after we play Storm, Panthers and Tigers.

Just poor footy IQ from people like yourself. If you're looking at all the wrong metrics for what makes a good footballer then you're doomed from the start.

Sadly people like yourself and FF have an equal voice on this forum, and the quality opinion from elsewhere gets lost in the noise.

Your post just goes to show what a complete f**kwhit you are
I never said Nighty wasn’t a good footballer I simply believe his best (on a constant basis) is now behind him and it is time to move him on and let someone with upside start their career
Lomax will bring far more to the table than the things you will lose by not having Flo in the team
If you don’t think that speed and ability to score run away tries is s metric a winger should have then you are a goose as well as a f**kwhit

Was absolutely positive this thread was going to be about the blinder Nightingale had. Yes I more than open to strengthening our left wing position but in saying that, I think we may have struggled to win this game without him. He was heavily involved and gave us some stability and match awareness that comes with experience.

...and does this regularly...

Aitken actually passed the ball to Nightingale twice today, that is twice as many times than in the whole year, including trials, but one pass was on Nightingale's shins.

Yes these signs are positive.

One pass in particular was just too slow motion.

You could actually see Aitken tossing up to pass or run and he passed but by that time he run the gypsy out of space and time.. .

Not at all, in fact I think we are the only club who wants to banish veterans before their time. As long as he keeps playing well what the hell does age have to do with anything ? He was never that quick anyway and still runs the same. It's bullshit that he slowed down.

As for Flo playing in forwards? Until this year as a winger at times over the years he was our best forward, ran at the opposition like a man possessed.

But I could also argue that if Lomax or any other youngsters came in and f**ked up you will regret why we dropped Flo.

Again he isn't doing enough f**k ups to be dropped and is a still world class.

Rocks & Diamonds is right! A courageous first half where his catching was miraculous and his running from dummy half, and even one off the ruck take ups, made ground. His run metres showed his effort. In a half where the game could have easily spun out of control, he helped keep us in there. (So did all of them during those 4 sets near our line just quietly). The second half.....well a dropped catch near our line, a lost ball in our twenty and being put out with two clear try scoring chances, one when the game was in the balance. Sigh. I know there is the pro-Nighty camp who say he won the game for us versus those critical of Nighty who say he nearly lost it for us. The truth is Nighty is going to be rocks and diamonds all year. His passion and experience will always see him come up with crucial plays and extra effort, but his lack of speed will see him miss scoring opportunities for us, and with a lack of speed comes increased pressure and with increased pressure comes the odd mistake. This is going to be the Nightingale story for the rest of the year.

Nighty made three plays when the team was under the pump big time. Two bombs one of which reminded me of the Hornby's in the GF and getting back to the field of play.

He has lost some speed however, was able to make a break to put the team in a position to score late in the first half.

Don't know if his diamonds will turn to rocks however, next year is next year and there is plenty of footy to be played this year.

Saints Forever that has been I my mind also . Not only do they have the speed but they are both outstanding wingers with an abundance of skill , they will have to be marked very closely .
Yeah but he's a wily old winger who has never been embarrassed by anyone, and he won't be embarrassed against Storm either.

Geez, some here have short memories. Just go back to the Melbourne games last year and look how many times he was burned by Melbourne's outside backs.

sorry mate my memory goes back to seeing a young flier coming through the juniors, killing it in the lower grades along with the Morris twins, giving over 10 years gold plated service in first grade including a premiership, staying loyal whilst others (aforementioned Morris twins) left for the dough and who still takes a mighty bomb under pressure and gives it all in every game he plays. He'll do me for now.
