No Love for Waugh

No, apart from him being an inspiration on the field,

Ricky Ponting, Glenn McGrathand Matthew Hayden are inpirations on the field, Steve Waugh is just there.

I also said he is in form atm and is getting runs.

It takes more than the odd 50 and one 100 in the last 22 innings to be in form. If it takes a rocket up the arse like Steve waugh got, when you are a batter of that calibre to get 70 runs off poor bowlers then you are not in form.

I also said he has overcome a shoulder injury and is fitter now then he was last year. I also mentioned that he coming in as a stop gap bowler now...

He bowls a few overs in the 4th test, gets a lucky wicket, his first in 4 years, again after the rocket up the arse and now all of a sudden he is a stop gap bowler, if he bowls a couple more overs in the 5th test next you'll be calling him a world class all rounder again.

This is one that we will definately have to agree to disagree on. You guys think a captain should have automatic selection no matter how poorly he is playing as long as the team is winning. I think a captain should still have to earn his place and get runs or take wickets depending on his position in the team and a captain coasting sets a poor example to him team mates.

You guys think Steve Waugh is in form atm and I know ;)he is not.

Like I said we are not going to agree on this no matter how long we debate it.

Kiwi.. this is a joke, right? You say that I keep falling back on the fact thatWaugh is captain... which to many people is enough (considering his successes)... but when I highlight my other reasons which were already stated, you find some fault... its argument for argument's sake.

Now answer my question.
Do you think the team are secretly thinking that Steve Waugh is crap?

How would i know what they think, i ain't a mind reader. It'd be like me saying Steve waugh is only in it for the money which I will not say, because i do not know this.

It's not argument for arguments sake, if the resons are as I see them, wrong then I will say so. If you can't come back from faults being found in your reasons then maybe you have bitten off more than you can chew.

My turn for a question.

Willow answer this......Is Stephen Flemming in form?

Hang on. A moment ago you said

"They'd stick up for him even if they were losing and he hadn't scored a run in years."

Anyone who watched Steve Waugh today would admit that he has seen better days. I will admit, he is an icon and an inspiration, but he just ain't what he used to be. The poms wanted to bowl to him instead of Langer. He was out 3 times and couldnt hack the bouncer, just like its always been.

That said, the man is a legend, and if Oz had no one coming up, id keep him. But with guys such as Clarke and Maher waiting in the wings, i think its time for S.Waugh to gracefully move over

Cheers,
Moffo

I thought it looked a bit cloudy down there in Melbourne too ;)

What has that got to do with it? Any player would stick up for their captain in public no matter what they thought of him. Sticking up for your captain doesn't mean you think he is a great player, a shite player, in form, out of form, you like him or not. It is simply about saying the right things in the media. The perfect example is the Melbourne Storm, look at last season, yet did you hear players coming out in the media absolutely rubbishing the Storm? or their captains? Do you see English cricketers in the media rubbishing hussain, no they are supporting him. It's standard practice almost, how many times do you read headlines like....players show support for struggling captian or captain has players support dispite losses and poor form. It's a bloody gimmie that players will always publically support their captian even if he is a wanker and can't play.

For you to know they'd stick up for him if 'they were losing and he wasn't scoring wouldn't you have to be a mind reader???

Kiwi: Stephen Fleming...? I didnt bring him up and can offer no opinion on some bloke who I don't even know. I thought we were talking about Steve Waugh.

You said:
"Of course his team MATES are gonna stick up for him. They'd stick up for him even if they were losing and he hadn't scored a run in years."

And then I asked:
Do you think the team are secretly thinking that Steve Waugh is crap?

And then you said:
"How would i know what they think, i ain't a mind reader. "

So therefore, you don't know.

"If you can't come back from faults being found in your reasons then maybe you have bitten off more than you can chew."
Rubbish. Absolute garbage. I was replying to your post that said I only used Steve Waugh's captaincy record as a reason for his selection. When I showed that you were wrong, (that is I had earlier pointed out a number of reasons) you simply switched to plan B and started another argument.

Every debate has two points of view.... I'm still trying work out what yours is.

Obviously you've missed some of MacGills comments on Waugh in the past.

Also, Bradman was not liked as a Captain. Do you think they would've stuck up for him??/

No I wouldn't have to be a mind reader to know it would happen. It always happens, it's a gimmie like I said, a team struggles the captain gets questioned and the team comes out in support of the captain. It's got nothing to do with what the players think and everything to do with the fact that it is always done. Every team has someone who deals with the media, and the first thing they would do if they had a brain would be to get the players to publically show support for their captain to show harmony in the team, mateship and a will to pull each other through ect. Again it has nothing to do with what the players think, it's pretty much a standard team practice during tough times.
