Still not sensible marketing spending big dollars on a campaign and then having to change it almost immediately.

I honestly don't get fans complaining about the game all the time. I f**ken love it. I mainly just complain about Parra :p

Sounds like the Waratahs plan.
And the Wallabies

It's also worth noting that all the big dollar numbers being thrown about are for the campaign, not the ad it's self.

The ad would've cost whatever it cost, but the vast majority of the coin being bandied around is the media spend.

That stays the same regardless of the ad being aired.

Serious question - If channel 9 have their version of simply the best, and fox have their own one too, where is the NRL one going to get played?

They didn't have to change it. There was nothing wrong with it. Its a good ad that markets itself well to potential fans. They are just weak merkins that fold at the sign of any criticism.

A good ad doesn't get criticised so much that the people who made it decide to can it a week later. You might agree with the sentiments in the ad, as might I, but it doesn't mean they should be centre stage in an ad for rugby league. It's an attempt to rebrand and appeal to new customers but it's not well done because it's the main focus, rather than the actual footy.

A small proportion of people complained. That doesn't make it a shit ad.

Even if a large number of people complained, it still doesn't make it a shit ad.

Sometimes the truth is uncomfortable.

The NRL didn't f**k up by making a shit ad, they f**ked up by not standing by their original convictions. Like most things, they get spooked by even the smallest bit of criticism and end up making silly kneejerk reactions.

What has the truth got to do with it? It was an ad. It's designed to sell their product. And it was so poorly received they canned it. That makes it a shit ad.
