Will it change the aussie dollar to pound exchange? I am applying for a job which if i get will mean 6 months of training in England and getting paid in pounds

The Pound has fallen to a 31 year low today, the markets are crazy, everything is going nuts today... The guys in the office are buzzing about it..

It will have a small effect on on us, but not in a way that the average Australian will probably notice, Mostly multinational businesses will be impacted, particularly those that trade in the UK, and those that import/export from the UK.

So I see that Brexit is not legally binding and that Parliament still have to vote on it.

Sounds a bit like our plebiscite only merkins like Abbott, Abetz and Bernardi have already said that they don't give a f**k about the result, they will vote no when it is presented to the floor anyway.

#merkins

So once again, what is the point of a plebiscite if it does not bind MPs to deliver the result ?

Brexit update:

Leave: 13,524,404
Remain: 12,635,440

Most news outlets are now calling it that the UK will leave the EU. Looks pretty much like that's what's going to happen.

Brexit Update:

Leave: 16,835,512
Remain: 15,692,093

Leave has gained the required votes to secure victory, so it's done and dusted that the UK will leave the EU.

It's already throwing up huge implications, Ireland are proposing to unify, and there is talk that Scotland may re-visit a new referendum to leave the UK and stay with the EU, as the whole of Scotland (by majority) voted to stay in the EU.

Other countries looking to hold similar referendums to leave, This could kick start the end of the EU. It's going to be a crazy next few years.

Does that mean brits will no longer work in the Eu without a visa and vice versa?

Not right away, but yes, ultimately the UK will close it's borders.

It's going to take them about 2 years to exit the EU, as they have negotiate new immigration and trade agreements before they can leave.

The GBP is cheap as chips today, if you had a good amount of cash sitting around, converting it to pounds today would probably be a pretty good idea, you may need to hang on to it a while before it rebounds, but it definitely will rebound.

So why was #brexit a good idea anyway ?

TBH I have not been following it at all. Based on Cori Bernardi saying it's a good thing, I'll assume that it's actually a bad thing.

Yep, pretty much this.

There's also a group in the UK that don't feel that the UK should take orders from the EU, but yeah, it's pretty much all about immigration.

Gronk, Citizens of the EU can travel to and work in any other country in the EU without the need of a Visa, and recently there have been more additions to the EU, with more smaller European countries joining, sparking fear in the UK that people from poorer European countries would flock to the UK looking for work (and taking jobs from Brittish people). The recent uptick in immigration of late has put a large strain on the UK's Public Health System and other Government funded programs, causing economic stress.

Leaving the EU means they can close this off, and ease the stress on these programs, at the same time being able to limit immigration.

It's an incredibly bad idea though, and has far worse implications that the brexit camp either aren't seeing or don't care about.

Ok I'm with Gronk here totally ignorant to this...

What other implications will this cause?

Scotland will have another referendum and leave the UK as they want to stay with the EU. Current refugees usually pick between the UK and Germany. Germany will soon be sick of taking them all in. If they leave the EU will collapse. It will have massive ramifications on financial markets. The Euro will be no more and we will go like Marty McFly back to pre EU Europe with borders and domestic currencies. The Muslim minority will rebel. The Turks, Albania and those Kosovars which illegally took Serbian land will stand by their Muslim brothers. Russia will eventually be asked to save Christian Europe and there will be political unrest and possibly war. That's about it.
