It wasn't a shit show at all.
I went today. Arrived at Tallawong at about 11.15 am. Queue was long, (about 100 metres) but moved really quickly. After about a 10 minute slow crawl, 2 trains turned up and left within 3 minutes of each other, Considering each train has a capacity of about 1200, the waiting crowds were dispersed onto the trains really quickly.
The ride to Chatswood was seamless and fast. I transferred to Sydney trains and continued to Wynyard. FMD, what a slow old trip that was on the double decker.
My return trip was equally seamless on the metro. They really do travel fast.
When I returned to Chatswood from Wynyard on the snail rail, the queues were horrendous, yet, I was on a metro train within 10 minutes.
Yes, there was a few teething problems today. One train's doors failed to open - I think at Macquarie Park which caused a 20 minute delay and a backlog of other trains, but this was cleared fairly efficiently and that train was taken out of service and replaced immediately.
There were some other smaller problems like some trains overshooting the platform screen doors by a small margin and having to reverse back. No big deal. Some of the electronic signage in the train didn't work on the two trains I travelled on, like one of these in the picture below. They are above every door on both sides of the train. Again, so big deal.
The greatest benefit was that as soon as the overcrowding became an issue, they just threw more trains into service. No calling in drivers or buses. Just push a few buttons at the control centre and get extra trains running.

These electronic signs also have other information flash up, like, when approaching a station, it has all the connecting train (if applicable) and bus routes. Another info flash up is times to certain stations ahead.

It was opening day. It was free. It was bound to be hectic, and certainly there will be some teething problems. I'm not sure the govt was expecting over 100 000 people to turn up, but they prepared well. There was plenty of metro staff around guiding and advising people, maintaining order and keeping queues flowing.

I personally, didn't expect so many people to trial it today. Yet when I arrived, I thought, 'Holy shit. Oh well, it is what it is. I'll deal with it". And that's what everyone I saw on the trains do as well. I didn't see any angst or commotion. People followed orders and were happy to be patient. That was my experience anyway.

It's about time this city built some decent, MODERN infrastructure, and this is just one piece in the future Metro puzzle. The more Metro lines that are built, the easier it will be for people to move around this city.

At least, if there is a problem on the Metro, it does not effect half or more of the whole shitty rail system. It is its own line, Unlike shite like signal failures on the Sydney rail system, which affects the whole system.

To suggest it was a shit show is misleading, ill-informed and ignorant.

Anyway, the photo I promised before....

I had the displeasure of watching some bimbo on CH9 news squealing with delight that the first leg of the metro had teething problems. FMD.

Anywho, my office is right next to Martin Place and whilst the CBD is a bit of a mess right now, at the same time it’s exciting how the city is transforming. George St is starting to look really smart with the shared pedestrian / light rail. From what I can see 5 buildings have come down to accommodate the new huge Martin Place station and closer to Town Hall, a new Pitt Street station. The Barangaroo precinct is looking very smart and soon we will have the very tired Wynyard and Town Hall stations looking deservingly modern.

When part 2 of the Metro opens (with new stations at Victoria Cross and Crows Nest), your trip from the Hills will be seemless.

Indeed a trip to the Randwick races, SCG or the new Allianz will be a modern delight as you hop off the driverless metro in the city and pick up the light rail to Moore Park. Go us.

Down the track we’ll have a zoom zoom train to Parramatta via Drummoyne which will also travel at 100km/h and reduce the journey to just 25-30 mins. Then I can transfer to the Parramatta light rail to the game.

So you went end to end and didn’t stop in between to see what was happening outside of 2 stations and yet call my post ignorant? I was at towers. It was a shit show. The wait went through all their loops and still ran 80% of the way down to pennant st.
The trains themselves are quick though which makes up for the constant misalignment with the doors

Did you not read my post?
I too, had to stand in queues, at both ends. Long queues, snaking their way through loops of metal barriers. I sucked it up. You however, sought to make it a whinge fest.

The first day of public use had 113000 people use the system on a freebie. Extraordinary numbers and considering that, it handled it well. Teething problems? Sure. And there will be more.
You had to wait in a queue on an historical day. Boo f**king hoo. Let's just rip the whole system out and go back to where we were a fortnight ago.

Just to let you know Gronk, caught the Metro from Rouse Hil Town Centre to Chatswood at 10.30am, waited 5 minutes, got on a perfectly automated metro to Chatswood ( smooth as ride ). Got off and the city trains are on the other side of the platform, perfect.

Return journey at 1.00pm, plenty of metro staff on platforms and walking through the carriages which are open from back to front, not that I expect that's the norm going forward. No issues, metro clean, functional, smooth and on time. Appeared happy commuters and travellers to Macquarie Uni etc. expect that the city light rail will be as good once complete.

Don't think you can pour vindictive on this action of a Liberal initiative, have a good day

And that's not to mention the amazing amount of road infrastructure taking place, and other future planned metros and light rail extensions. We are finally getting the infrastructure we should have had decades ago.
Sites like this one, run by fruit cakes, are who are trying to hold this city back. Information is both disingeanious and at worst, dishonest.

I suppose some of them had to stand in a queue yesterday on the NWRL.

Um, I did point out some of the teething problems in my original post. Are you just still whining for the sake of it?
Both of your posts have hardly addressed any of the issues I raised, besides having to wait in a queue, and a few trains over shooting a platform door which is quickly rectified.
I'm really not sure what your problem is?
And, I'm not sure what hineyrulz has to do with this discussion. He hasn't played any part in it considering he lives north of the border.

I suggest you go back and read my original post. When you discover how your the one who blew it out of proportion perhaps you’ll understand what hiney has to do with it. Here’s a clue

f**k it. I’ll spell it out for you. That’s the Towers hour and half long wait shit show. No whining about overshooting or how it’ll operate going forward. I’m not looking to save the T3 line. I actually like the metro. But that snapshot right there was my original post. That’s it and apparently I’m now ignorant and against progress. Over a single isolated observation that you weren’t party to

Can you put me up for the winter?
Toughen up, merkin. I used to love riding a bicycle to work mid winter in Sydney. It got the blood flowing. I'm going back there to visit relos and friends next month, enjoying the cold will be a bonus. Katoomba winter festival and a pizza at the Station Bar will be in the mix.
