Not sure what airlines are going to use the new runways, but it will be a nightmare to get out there for all but those who live in the south west.

If they were smart they would build a high speed dedicated line that splits to CBD, Hurstville, Parramatta and Chatswood.

They should take serious look at Hong Kong's set up. There you can check-in at their Central Station (There are actually 6 locations on HK Island and Kowloon that you can drop off your bags), leave your bags with the airline, and then go get lunch or do some shopping. When it's time to leave, you jump on the airport express and zip @ 130km/h out to the airport. With no bags to worry about, you then just need to clear immigration and jump on your plane.

Sydney is sooooo f**kin far behind with transport already .... there is so much else to do .... the current airport survived without rail for decades and apparently isnt heavily used now cos it costs a bit

they will get to the end of building all these things and you know what will happen? .... the tolls will be plenty and it will cost $30 to go anywhere in sydney and every f**ker will be going off their head over it

It's not just Sydney. It's nationwide.

There are too many complaining f**kwits that whinge about any project that comes within 100km of their house or a sensitive frog or worse still dares to generate greenhouse gas.

Nervous politicians know that these are the exact f**kwits that will vote them out so nothing gets done until it is too late.

It's a shit situation and means that we are a laughing stock when compared to other countries. Whineyrulz and Korny are probably responsible in some way...

I'll be interested to see how they use the 2nd airport.

In KL and Bangkok, they moved everything to the new airport and used the old airports for domestic and "low cost" airlines like Scoot, Air Asia etc.

The Syd-Mel route the the 1st or 2nd most used route in the world, so it does not make sense that those high volume domestic routes are moved to Mordor.

Will Qantas move out there ? No way unless the Gov gives them a squillion to pay for a new jetbase.

I think there wont be a kurfew at the new airport ... but will remain at mascot ... so that might be a little carrot to get airlines out there - or maybe that will appeal to freight carriers more??

Joyce has called for awhile for 2nd airport? So either they'll be moving there or hoping the low costs move there so they can expand services at Mascot

EDIT - apparently on Sunrise yesterday he stated they would move there. I reckon they'd probably run a lot of their domestics from there plus probably Indo & NZ flights
