I'm night 2 of 8 in to my Byron stay as I type... Never stayed here before, only done a day trip from the gold coast years ago.... Staying a hundred metres or so from Clarke's beach , away from the hustle and bustle of Byron central....

My thoughts so far - too f**king busy anywhere near the main town. Arranging lunch and dinner with other families we're with is anxiety inducing cause most places are chockers and just can't accommodate you....

I'm not sure I'd ever really be in a hurry to come back here tbh... Don't hate it, but not feeling the love all the same....

3 or 4 nights there and I've always become a bit bored.
Go for a drive to Nimbin. Take the scenic route it's a great drive. It is also an eye opening town. Same as Mullumbimby.

agree, problem is anywhere you go this time of year will be over crowded as its Christmas

you cant really judge anywhere by an influx of out of towners
True dat. As soon as the school holidays are over the coastal towns become normal again.

here's a tip for you if you're single...go into Crystal Castle in Mullum as a single man and guaranteed you'd be hit on by a nature loving flower girl in their 40s looking for a man to get spiritually connected with..

Byron is still more trendy , edgy and better coffee than Noosa. The restaurants are also better. Yesterday I had a shit meal at Noosa, complained about it and got 50% off. Worst meal in a long time. Some joint on the river where @Suitman would eat.

Both places are a nightmare to get into by car. Tell me, did you use the solar train in Byron when you were last there?
There are hundreds of places along the Aussie coast that are worth visiting. I notice that South West Rocks doesn't get a mention here. Staying a night or two at the Smoky Cape Lighthouse cottages is very worthwhile. I suppose it's all down to what your preference is when it comes to coastal towns.

Ultimately it comes down to what you want in a holiday. Personal preferences. Do you want action? Do you want peace? Do you want to explore......
I like the Sth coast cause it is quiet and I got to get away from people. If you wanted excitement it's not the place. If you wanted laid back and chill with no dressing up then it's the place.

You are not wrong about Smoky Cape Lighthouse, stayed there last November, cannot wait to go back again.
I often go to the mid North Coast and stay at Port Macquarie and then about an hours north at Grassy Head and Stuarts Point. Used to have great accommodation at a place called Grassy Head hideaway but the property is up for sale now, been staying there either around November or March pretty often for the last 15 years or so. Still like Port Mac but it is definitely getting busier.

The beauty is that every place is unique in it's own way - we are blessed. Suity has an affiliation with the NSW south coast and he's not alone by a long shot. I love it because it's different. Cooler climate, the colour of the ocean, the scenery and just the general vibe.
