If the case of extreme heat if you are really struggling with the heat and have no access to air conditioning you can try a cold shower, or sit in a cold bath.

The next best thing is to wet you clothes or T shirt and stand in front of a fan, it will cool your body.

Rinse and repeat.

Ping @Haynzy

Haynzy what's the go with SA power ? If you listen to the Federal LNP or the rants by the conservatives on SkyNews, it's all because the 50% renewable energy target has rendered power production to be unreliable. They were laughing this morning that SA had a blackout because there was no wind.

TBH I take what they say with a grain of salt simply because they all belong to the "coal club".

Has SA committed themselves to renewable too early and gotten the mix wrong ? Or was the super storm and yesterdays 25min blackout just bad luck due to unforeseen circumstances ?

I'm certainly no expert but from what I understand we have a very old system that requires a large amount of maintenance. I think the most recent power outage was due to an enforced power shedding to stop overload in the eastern states.
Apparently the power outage a couple of days ago could've been stopped if they'd been allowed to use the Pelican Point power plant.
When the Olsen government sold it all over in the 90s they promised improvements and cost reductions, my experience has been the opposite. We have more outages and power prices have continued to rise.
Reports I've heard seem to indicate that blaming it our reliance on renewables is crap and is just playing politics.

So who is Trump gonna sack now ?

The republicans are saying "you wait until our supreme court nominee gets in, he'll overturn it".

Thank f**k we have a constitution which separates Parliament, Executive and the Judiciary. So whatever the high court rules, the PM has to suck it up.

In the US it seems that you can parachute a judge in to the highest court of the land who will (so they think) rule against common law and support the President's Executive Orders. I though shit like that only happens in dictatorships.

Haha AEMO warned NSW and QLD of possible shedding today. Very hard for Josh Frydenberg to blame wind turbines for this.

I heard a merkin on the ABC say thing morning that AEMO decided not to turn on the Pelican Point gas power generator because of the cost. Many of these backup power stations are private and they charge a shitload for the power they generate.

How did we get in a position were essential services are in private hands and can charge overs for emergency power ? FMD

The irony will be delicious when the Wanderers play out of the New Parramatta Stadium during the heat of summer during daylight hours because there will be power cuts/savings preventing the floodlights from being used for night games.... all because we sold the poles and wires.... There'll be dead merkins all over the pitch and beet-root faced fans watching from the stands in the afternoon sun!

Was human sacrifice ever proven ineffective or did it just go out of fashion? I think we should give it another go cos it's ridiculously hot. God must be angry about something. We could start with Seward.

Edit, on second thought, any deity with self-respect would no doubt punish us further for such a poor offering.

Well, it reached 44 or 45 in many Sydney suburbs today.
Tomorrow will likely exceed those levels.
Thankfully, no power cuts here yet. Without the air-con the house would be an oven within the hour.
