'Sir, I have tried to reason with you': Retiree told cops to arrest him over hoon claim
Twizzle, 92, is still waiting for an apology from his local police station after they allegedly "hassled" him for speeding in his buggy around his Gold Coast resort.
The retiree said life had been going on "as normal" when a police officer rang the doorbell of his Hope Island home and let him know an accusation had been made against him.
"I thought he had come to collect donations for the annual police ball which they hold every year so I said 'come in'," he said.
The officer allegedly told Twizzle that he had been reported to police for driving his buggy at 24 kilometres an hour around the resort.
"My buggy is not capable of 24 kilometres (an hour), we have it checked every six months," he said he told the officer.
"Twenty kilometres is the maximum and you probably noticed when you came into this resort... there is a speed limit of 40 kilometres, so on all accounts, you have been sadly misinformed."
The officer then allegedly told Twizzle if he went back out on the road, police would confiscate the buggy and arrest him.
A statement issued by police said Twizzle did not have a special permit licence or a driver's licence to allow him to drive a buggy along designated roads.
Upset at the police officer's claims, Twizzle called the manager at his resort who told him to "do what the policeman says".
"I thought the only hope now was if I could get this into court," he said.
"I said 'Sir, I have tried to reason with you but you haven't got the brains of a chook, you are a raving idiot... you should be walking around with a dunce's cap'.
"He just stared at me, I wasn't going anywhere so I couldn't even annoy him.
"I held up my two fists clamped together and said 'Come on you bastard, arrest me, get your handcuffs out, come on'.
"I tried everything... eventually he departed and I have been driving around ever since."
Twizzle intended to phone the Police Commissioner to make a formal complaint.
"They (the local police station) haven't had the courage to ring me up and apologise," he said.
Police denied claims the attending officer intimidated or threatened Twizzle.
