BOOKIES walked away from the Melbourne Cup with millions in their bags and one unlucky punter’s decision to ‘Cash Out’ a TAB multi ticket has cost a whopping $138,078.80.
The punter placed a $5 4-leg multi just before midday with De Little Engine ($9.50/Flem R3), Malaguerra ($6/Flem R4), Don’t Doubt Mamma ($6/Flem R6) all saluting before Prince Of Penzance ($81) won the Melbourne Cup.
It appears as though the customer accepted a ‘Cash Out’ offer after the third leg which resulted in a payment of $441.20.
If the customer didn’t ‘Cash Out’, they stood to collect $138,510.
The biggest bet CrownBet took on the Cup winner Prince of Penzance was $700 each way.
It was chicken feed compared to the massive money punters parted with on the highly fancied international runners, led by unplaced favourite Fame Game.
The short odds on offer for Fame Game didn’t stop an avalanche of late money for the Japanese horse just before the race with one punter outlaying $25,000 at $4.40.
And the two individual bets of $10,000 came for Fame Game when he drifted to $5.
One punter parted with $15,000 at $7 on the highly fancied Trip To Paris.

Chris Waller’s Preferment attracted a race day win bet of $10,000 at $12.
The TAB reported that the $101 fixed odds on Prince of Penzance made him the longest equal priced Melbourne Cup winner 1940.
The winner was the rank outsider in the TAB betting.
Three previous runners to win the Melbourne Cup at $101 were The Pearl (1871), Wotan (1936) and Old Rowley (1940)
One TAB punter collected $252,000 after having $2000 @ $126 in a Victorian TAB less than 30 minutes before the race.
A staggering $141.8 million was wagered on the 10-race program Cup meeting across the Tabcorp-owned NSW, Victorian and ACT TABs. This was up 2.1% on 2014.

He paid $86.70 for the Win on the NSW TAB tote and $65.90 on the SuperTAB (Victorian and ACT) tote.
The Trifecta (Prince of Penzance, Max Dynamite and Criterion) paid $26,045 on the NSW TAB and $20,010.30 on Super TAB.
The First 4 (Prince of Penzance, Max Dynamite, Criterion and Trip To Paris) paid $185,975 on the NSW TAB and $307,081 on Super TAB, where it was supported by a $7 million pool guarantee.
Ladbrokes stood to lose more than two million dollars had Fame Game won.
Their biggest winning biggest winning bet on the Darren Weir-trained galloper was $100 for a $10,000 return.
William Hill Australia recorded its biggest ever Melbourne Cup. But one of their punters picked Prince of Penzance for a massive $169,000 windfall.
The punter placed several bets on the Darren Weir trained gelding on the morning of the race.
William Hill also recorded their biggest ever day of live racing with more In-Play bets placed on the Melbourne Cup alone, than the any other race day this spring.
Fame Game and Trip to Paris were the worst results pre-jump for William Hill, while strong finishes from Max Dynamite and Criterion helped thousands of punters who hedged their bets each way on the race.
Prince Of Penzance was the rank outsider with Sportsbet, paying $101, but in October he was paying $67 and got out to $81 in October.
Sportsbet’s biggest wager on the winner was $1000 at $101, But they took 20,719 smaller bets, including one of just one cent.
