These mules were only at risk of firing squad after Widodo got in Oct 2014 and decided to everyone's shock that he was going to clear the back log on death row. Prior to that under previous rule, clemency was odds on.
These two weren't the mules, they were the ringleaders... the other seven they coordinated (who didn't receive death sentences) were the mules.

Clemency had been the policy in recent times, but without having earnt a reduction in sentence (through providing information about their supply chain), these guys were always at risk - primarily due to the level of crime they admitted and were convicted for.

Irrelevant shit

In case you don't understand, here is a sing-along about how the Eels will never be magic. "A whole new world" retitled as "The same old shit"

Verse 1:

I can show you Pirtek,
Errors, penalties -- conceded,
Tell me Eels fans, now when did you last win a premiership?
I can open your eyes,
Take you blunder by blunder,
Over Sidelines, surrender,
On an Eels carpet ride

Chorus:

The same old shit,
A new fantastic point of view,
No need to expect a try,
or have a cry,
it's time we all stop dreaming

They are/were worried about the Mr Bigs harming their families in Australia..........
They made the choice to coordinate international trafficking of drugs for personal gain at risk of the death penalty in a foreign country - they got caught. They did not think of the consequences of their actions, and the potential impact on others - including their seven colleagues, their families, and the potential users of the imported drugs plus their family members.

They put their own families through 10 years of hell, and now very horrific public grief. They are responsible for their own predicament, and much suffering besides. They can learn to paint and preach religion behind bars all they like, but their deaths would likely not had occurred had they given the authorities the information they were seeking.

No they weren't.
The ring leaders are somewhere in this country sitting in a mansion at this very moment smoking cigars.
The two were ringleaders of the group of nine that were arrested. Surely that much isn't in dispute? That's why they got death sentences, and the rest didn't.

How far up a chain do we need to go to define a ringleader? During their much publicised remorse and rehabilitation, did they ever give their ringleaders up to the authorities?

Do we know they didn't?
Do we know that they even know who the ultimate ringleaders are?

Let's just find a few 'facts' from the newspapers and join the dots. Of course we'll come up with the correct assumption.

I don't buy the whole 'they knew the risks etc'. Young men think they are 10ft tall and bullet proof. They make dumb choices and yes, there should be consequences but this was not the right consequence.

This punishment is barbaric and the system over there is known to be corrupt.
Killing someone is never ok. In this situation it is state sanctioned murder.

There are a lot issues at play here. I fully get why the victims of crime (or their relatives) may want to kill the perpetrator of a crime, and though I'd like to think I wouldn't do that....I dunno. But....I don't believe the state should sanction the calculated killing of individuals. Lock em up, throw away the key if necessary.

I suspect the media treatment of all of this may have been a little different if the people in question were, say, reformed rock spiders.

Do we even know if there was anyone else further up the food chain?

An I nnocent 17 year old girl is dragged off the street last night in Southern NSW and raped by 3 men..........let's worry about 2 people who knew the consequences of their actions if they were caught.......

Maybe these guys are also young men who think they're 10ft tall and bullet proof, so it makes it alright? Dumb choice? I say kill them, I'll do it, without a second thought. Low life scum don't deserve to be alive!

There are many crimes that I think should be punishable by death, their burden on society is a waste of resources and money. The rehabilitation rates are not high enough.

Do I think drug runners should ultimately be killed? f**k no! I don't rate the crime that highly at all to be honest. Everyone has a choice and have free will to take drugs. Do I blame fast food for being overweight? No, I am solely responsible.

I have taken many drugs in my life and managed to stay away from addiction. It was all my choice.

Society loves to blame everyone else for everything, it astounds me how many people have sympathy for criminals. Murderers, pedophiles, rapists, what purpose do they serve to society?

The only valid argument for the case of these 2 is the Bali bombers getting f**k all and these guys dying for running drugs. Their laws are f**king stupid and I would never have gone there before and certainly wouldn't go now. But, their law is VERY clear.......

.....and bloodshed begets bloodshed Korny.

You don't have kill someone to punish them. As I said above, I wouldn't blame a relative for doing it, but when the state does it, it is a different story.
