The discussion was the gf viewing figures, which we lost for second year in a row. Add into that that we lost most of the finals weeks games tv viewings and we are seeing an emerging pattern that should be a big concern. but yeh origin still rates well so all is good.

Are the regular season overall figures out yet?
Lol you're a special case
The figures so far for the Gf have the AFl slightly in front
They should be
They had a team that hadn't won for nearly 4 decades ..long suffering fans etc
V a GF that had 2 teams that had both won a Gf in the last 5 years .
Plus no home town team .

Get a grip you whiny bitch
All you do is whinge

I like some of your points. But remember its a crap code akin to a training run out rating the toughest football competition in the world bar none. Its not a good look and rugby league deserves better.

Excellent article. The daytine grandfinal clearly gained more viewers and it showed RL got a good interest level in Victoria and Qld, though NSW was comparatively low. This alligns relatively to the clubs participating in the gf.
Roy Morgan polls aren't worth shit

Tv ratings can be a bit hit and miss with the way the figures are calculated. Maybe over the next year it will readjust once people realize the cHange. In the future, online social sites etc will a have exact numbers that can’t be dodgy. Even the afl would find it hard to con Facebook, you tube. The Nrl should spend a couple $$ on promoting the game outside Aus. Believe it or not our Rugby league websites, Facebook sites work outside of Aus too. If we had 4million facebook likes compared to 1mil (AFL) that would definitely leave us in a better position no matter what way you spin it.

As of next year our new contract begins. I think c9 will have the steaming rights to our matches , which should boost our numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if the AFL were already doing this or something similar.

Well that's the last time I try to introduce a solid argument into a discussion here.

You're 100% right, mate.

Southern Cross (which is now Nine programming) has only a 19% share of regional TV while WIN (which is now Ten programming) has 38.4%. That is the key reason for the drop in NRL ratings this year. Nothing to do with the NRL or the commission at all.
Thanks for the info. Does this mean that there are traditional RL regional areas that now have no access to free-to-air rugby league?

They would have access but on a station that may have a weaker signal or presence in the area. Nine had to sign agreements with different networks to cover the areas that Southern Cross doesn't cover too so it's a bit of a mess in places like Mildura.

Regional areas in general are very loyal to WIN because they produce local news broadcasts while Southern Cross has only small updates from the one news hub.

I believe there were some issues in Townsville when the switchover initially took place in July but I think any major reports of problems were fixed with a simple retune of the TV.

Thanks! I guess streaming NRL matches is an option also for some viewers that may be affected. This would definately impact ratings which as far as I can see is not being taken into account.

And last years excuses? Or the excuses for the other finals games? If that RM SMS poll is anywhere near accurate this race is well lost.

You sir are a classic ostrich.

Interesting that RM poll showed very few people watched the GF's of either code on streaming,

Some Telstra figures more info in link.
On Sunday, live streaming of the 2017 NRL Grand final followed suit; unique viewers of the live game were up 97% on last year, with fans streaming 245% more minutes of Grand Final rugby league action than 2016.
With NRL Live Pass subscribers up 260% year-on-year for season 2017, and with more than 650,000 unique visitors visiting the app 3.6 million times per round – we know these fans, and more, will be back in 2018.
Keep an eye out for the new-look NRL app in early December.

Great numbers, particularly from Melbourne. They might even start overtaking Brissy in a few years.

I think this proves the appetite for Rep Football. I hope the RLIF have a big calender planned leading up to the next WC, and i hope the ARLC do more to promote Asia-Pacific tests

Yes they do, except Kangaroos have pulled out of any test matches next year lol. Way to grow the game on the back of WC momentum Greenberg! Couldn't believe when they said Saturdays game was the first time NZ has played on home soil for three years! Then when we wonder why Int RL struggles to get attention!!
