Nine would be happy with a 38.3% share for the night. The figures for Perth and Adelaide were excellent and great to see it was shown on ch9 not Gem only being beaten by 7 news overall for the night. Ratings for the State of Origin were well down on last year, but it still blew absolutely everything else out of the water pretty good in the current TV landscape. Also 9 Perth stayed for the post match review as well which also had good figures.

Wasn't game one last year the highest rating Origin ever? Was always going to be difficult to match those numbers.

Glad that the audiences in Perth and Adelaide were treated to a high quality game.

The stage is set for a ratings bonanza in game two.

G1 last year was the highest metro (5 city rating ever) - 2.708m, beating G3 2013 by 10k.
G3 2013 highest rating of all time (well since 2003 at least) at 4.194m total. Followed closely by G2 2014 at 4.193m, G1 2014 at 4.055m and G3 2012 at 4.039m

I'd say pretty impressive ratings considering the score line. I think we'll see higher ratings for game 2 bucking the trend from last year. Obviously game 3 depends on if we get a decider or not. If we do it'll be one of the highest rating origins ever if not it'll be another big drop.

Good figures in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. Especially Perth and Adelaide considering we have literall no presence there.

Also interesting that Brisbane ratings are so close to Sydney despite the score line.

  • Perth:
o Average audience: 138,000 (peak of 153,000)

o No.1 program with People 16-39.

o 40% increase in average audience compared to Game 1, 2016

We so need to get nrl games off gem and onto the main channel in Perth.

its a tough ask when even AFL prime time games in perth are shown on secondary channels.

This is another reminder of why we deserve as much money as the AFL. Depending on whether or not game 3 is a dead rubber we essentially have 2-3 mid season games that rate as well as the GF. Basically origin is guaranteed to provide 2-3 of the top 5 highest rating programs of the year and potentially even number 1. I would have to think that big matches like that are what the broadcasters value above all else.

Doubt that will ever happen. Regardless the big matches like the GF and SOO should be shown nationwide on the main channels, there is no excuse anymore.

Getting all Melbourne and the eventual Perth team home matches live into their own market is probably the best we can ever hope for.

Good signs on WA! To be fair to the NRL, they have been consistently taking games there for a while now. With the exit of the Force, they NRL just need to act.

Only issue is the pay dispute with the players... the game has a good funding deal, but it's not quite good enough for expansion to occur easily. We need a private interest to stump up most of the cash.

Good on Rusty for seeing a commercial opportunity that has been beneficial not only to the Rabbitohs and its brand, but RL in general.

The Perth Rabbitohs...why not?

More people watched the origin in Perth than the AFL in Perth last night it only got just over half the origin audience.

Imagine banging on a WA vs SA, VIC vs SA and VIC vs WA rep match on the Saturday night before Sunday night SOO next year?

Most wins, points F/A is crowned winner. Could be full of imports for all I care to start with but just get it going. Give these states something to brag about and watch.
