Toovey on NRL360 said that Parra have been a solid team for many years but something has to change. He said, ‘I’m not sure what it is but it has to change.”

It’s obvious what it is.
Was he in a coma last year ?

Yeah this year needs a review. I still reckon that squad quality and attrition has far more impact on performance than anything else. So if you want a scapegoat, go there. If changes need to be made, then by all means, do it.

Benny said we need to blow up the squad and rebuild...

FFS his nephew is in the squad.. What do we need to rebuild?

Covid period has analed any club that needed developing. Penrith gained the most out of covid as they had a squad on the up during that period and were already developed.

You were banging on about the quality of our squad and it’s depth at the beginning of the season.

We need to bring in a defense coach that can actually make our defense good.

You don't think Paulo part of the reason for our decline this season?
He is apparently on a lot of money and his output on the fieldhas not been of a high quality.
His defence has been poor and his attack is not as good as it has been in previous sesons. His large contract is part of the reason we can't afford to pay more in other positions (such as outside backs).

It might surprise you, but what I say on a forum in Feb or March or April has very little impact on how the team actually goes in the season.

Anyway, how long did we sit at 26 or 27 players in a 30 squad ? What was our attrition rate this year with injuries and suspensions ? How was that dealt with ?

A defence coach can only do so much with certain players.
We are weak in the middle with players such as Paulo and Hopgood, and our outside backs suffer because of this.

Maybe a different coach can work out a plan to nullify these weaknesses, I don't know. But I doubt just changing the cach will have the immediate effect you are looking for.

Oh I think he is a big problem you just need to find all my posts about Barlow.

BA wanted him for the 4 years.
We don’t know what BA wanted. But you’re kidding yourself if you think coaches are more influential than all their players. The coach wouldn’t even be the top earner at most clubs. As for Paulo, he is a ‘leader of the Pasifika community’ blah blah blah. He would have plenty of marketing value to the club, much like Asian soccer players in Europe.

I’m certain most coaches don’t get the final say when it comes to retention of the club’s senior players. The players would have more say over who the coach should be. This is because coaches are easier to replace.

Paulo is a great player and has been for a long time.

However with what he is (Apparently) getting paid, would that money be better served strengthening other positions? It is quite clear, currently we are lacking in the outside backs.

Food for thought...

Agree. All 4 blokes on the recruitment committee should be shown the door.

I thought we would probably lose either him or RCG when they were off contract.
In hindsight we may have been better off just letting Paulo go and signing someone cheaper. We may have been able to keep one of Mahoney, Papalii or Niukore.

Was definitely smart to wait until there was some value in the market. There’s a reason the NRL requires a certain number of signings by given dates. It’s because smart clubs will hold off as long as they can to wait for value. The players most likely to be on overs are the ones who sign on the first of November.

I think we are also lacking a strike second rower and center.

For some reason BA likes to turn everyone into a big slow front rower..

Yes, he has certainly done that with Cartwright, Hopgood, Papalii, Davey, Matterson, Lane, Stone, Salmon, Nrown, Scott, Takairangi, Edwards, Ma'u, Terepo.

Not to mention all those halves, wingers, centres, fullbacks he has turned into big, slow front rowers.
