Unfortunately for him Davison has all the support of the Bomber's fans. :sarcasm:

And if it's serious they aren't doing it because Nine don't want another game then  'Sorry kids, daddy said no'

If it's not true then for Christ's sake they have to say something soon.

Good point and like I said I'll be waiting to hear the details of the announcement. If what's been reported is confirmed to be true though then I do have to say it is a bit short sighted.

I agree if they come out and say expansion is out for another 5 years they have dropped the ball.
This is where a ceo like tony cochran as he has just overseen the expansion of his previous company to places many would have imagined v8s would never have raced.

At the moment there is no need to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Who knows no expansion to 2015 could mean the first team kicks off that season

Weak as piss.

The ARLC are proving that they only deal with issues that hysterical f**kwits like the hacks at the DT bang on about, and only deal with them in reactionary way.

When it comes to real issues that are crucial to the future of the game, they are as useless as Gallop and News Ltd.

Expansion not part of the Australian Rugby League Commission's vision which will be unveiled in full tomorrow

EXPANSION is expected to be officially put on the backburner on Monday when the ARL Commission unveils its long-term vision for the game.

With a $1 billion-plus broadcast deal now in place, the ARLC will present its strategic plan for 2013-2017 - with expansion and the split of the funding pie amongst the key topics.

A new logo for the NRL will also be revealed as the commission sets out its long-term priorities at Rugby League Central.

Consortiums up and down the eastern seaboard - including groups in Brisbane, Ipswich and the NSW Central Coast - along with others from Perth, Wellington and even Papua New Guinea have been building their case for inclusion for a number of years.

But intent on ensuring the survival and growth of the 16 teams already in the competition, the ARLC is set to announce that expansion is not on the agenda for at least the next five years.

Bid teams were always facing an uphill battle to secure a start from the moment Nine Network boss David Gyngell indicated more games would not drive up broadcast revenue.

The ARLC will confirm a $5 million salary cap for the 2013 season, while clubs are also set to be given an indication on where the cap and the annual grants will head over coming years.

It is anticipated that a greater financial commitment to both grassroots and country football will be announced, with plans for more NRL games to be played in the bush.

There will also be clarification on representative eligibility for both State of Origin and Test football.

The ARLC's strategic plan has been six months in the planning, though there is still no word on who will be empowered to enact the vison, with no word yet on a replacement for former chief executive David Gallop, who was forced out in June.

So their vision is to change nothing.

I guess this will be the new logo:

It's disappointing but it seems like they are going to be pretty conservative and don't want to rock the boat too much. Sticking with 9 and 2GB, no expansion in the next few years, etc.

Good news is that it seems like they're going to be spending big on the amateur + junior game.

You clearly know nothing of the "rugby" scene in WA and the battle between union and league for the same Jnr's.

With no hope of an NRL team I can see many league fans going to watch the farce as even union is better than following afl for many.

Haha

Good decision, the code must consolidate markets before throwing millions away on expansion with no certainty for success.

So they're going to formally examine the possibility of expansion at the end of the 2014 season? It's close enough to keep stringing the bids along, but far away enough to increase the buthurt in the regions that miss out. The ARLC are playing a dangerous game here, and if they're not careful they could drive a lot of very passionate league people away.

Is there an Australian sporting competition with less ambition than the NRL? Other codes would kill to have bids rolling in from as many quarters as rugby league has over the past few years.

More of the same chook raffle organisation and self-serving 'existing clubs first' BS that has kept the game behind the ARU and AFL in key areas for so long.

Think its a trace back to conservative catholic working class roots of the game. The fear of change or innovation.

Until the game unshackles from the noose of self-interested Club Directors it will never advance as quickly as it should. Meanwhile, AFL which is classless and appeals to all stratums of society, just marches ahead. Today, AFL has gained a new batch of dissilluisoned league fans I'm sure.

Looks like those who railed against the constitution of the new ARLC were correct. The inept clubs with the weakest cases for existence are de facto controlling the game again.

FFS just make your minds up! They don't need to introduce the teams anytime soon but at least put the bids out of their misery. All they have done with this is ensure another 2 years of wasted money, time and energy of committed RL people who will just feel even more aggrieved if they don't get a team.

Somewhat unrelated, but that feels to me like the general issue with Australia in general...

This is probably the worse possible outcome from the bids point of view. No expansion for 5 years and they would have packed up and gone home, expansion now and they culd have presneted their bids and the winner got on with it. No decision for two years means all the bids are going to continue working hard and spending money trying to get a place when it is reviewed in 2 years time. A very decision imo.

I think this can be salvaged into something half-sensible if the ARLC provides funding for expansion teams to join the NSW and QLD Cups.
