NRL Finals 2023

When you see them all lined up like that you realise there's a lot of them. How could it be so difficult, for so many years, to have not been part of it?
Haha, do you mean there's 8 teams so how the bloody hell did we not get a representative (ie a team in the finals) for so long? Good question. When you consider that for 11 seasons, 22 in total between us and the Tigers, only one season - ours in 2018 - was a finals-qualifying one on the back of both making the semi-finals in 2011, that is pretty incredible levels of ineptitude.

Shit, wish I'd check in on here last night!

Only alcohol free and general admission left now.

Does anyone know if they're seated or standing?
GA is standing, on their hill area or at the other end, which is more concrete-like and near food and bar joints. Although, I always find, once you're in you're in, so to speak. I move around, eventually finding a place to park myself.

My deep Parra mole gave me the hot oil on how to beat Penrith. Because we already know it, and have mentioned it here already, there's no need for anyone to hotfoot it to Webby.

But it relates to what Penrith like to do, play tough through the middle, draw you into a grind, and finish clinically on the edges.

So, we play more ad-lib, unstructured. We rattle them (and they can be rattled) with unpredictable tactics, which includes offloads of course.

A key here is our ball retention, there's no point taking risks if we spill the pill at any time let alone early in the set and in our own half. Will our nerves hold?

Managed to get some seats in the main stand after multiple times logging in and then once getting some tickets quickly taking out a second mortgage.

If you see someone in the crowd with an Up the Tahs banner then that's me as part of my psy-ops to get rid of that hateful manufactured saying. May not be wise to have rugby references banner in Penrith, but I feel it's worth the few bruises I may get to accomplish my goal. ;)

Sure, but in 2011 (eons ago) somehow we outplayed Melbourne the finals by playing Melbourne style, but just better. That was awesome.

I felt we unsettle Melbourne by playing more unstructured (eg offloads).
We did that for a while till I think SK put the offloads away.

Got to play with the talent we have.
AFB needs CNK or Egan sniffing around.
Not as confident about other forwards offloads? Haven't looked at the stats tho.

I think that's cool, and sensible. I think from memory, in 2007/08/11, we had players involved in the finals at that photo shoot. Steve Price was definitely there one year.

There may be a different thread for this, but what are we thinking in terms of Dally M awards recipients from our club? I don't think SJ will win the Dally M, he'll go close and maybe be top 5, which is a hell of an achievement. AFB locked for prop of the year? SJ halfback? DWZ winger?
I reckon SJ is still a definite shot. Top 3 at worst. Every other real contender has been injured or rested more.

Gee we are lucky to have such insightful pundits in this country

Adam Blair on the radio as I was driving to work this morning

“it’s hard to win the comp from outside the top 8”

“What time does your coverage start on Saturday Adam ?” “Ummmm, what time does the game start ?”

f**k me dead. He actually said that?

He is such a shithouse commentator. He winds me up, massively. Dude played 300 NRL games, with some of the greatest minds in the game, but can offer nothing apart from cheerleading. I can't imagine how woeful a junior coach he is.

Doesn't even know what time the game starts. My 6-year-old, truly, knows the answer to that. That's so unprofessional.

I was watching the 2018 finals game on Youtube and he even winds me up in games that have already happened. 12-0 up, hot on attack, Adam Blair throws a shithouse ball that turns it over, limps back into the defensive line, Panthers go down the other end and eventually score, the whole momentum changes.

100% he said that lol, when they told him 6pm he said “oh well we will be on from 5.30pm then” and then something along the lines of “and I’ll be riding the Wahs home”

Great, riveting stuff.

Why don't we just have the Mt Smart Joker on there, or that one-trick pony shoey guy from under the coaches box. At least they know when the game starts.

Can someone please promise me we have Australian commentators, and not Blocker, on Saturday? I do not want Adam, nor Glen the Llama, nor Honey 'Captain Obvious' Hireme-Smiler. I do not want Laura 'see me go the whole halftime break without blinking' McGoldrick, either, but I guess she'll be in studio for some half-arsed take with some 'experts' on how the first 40 went. That will be my drinks break.

Anyway.

Three sleeps to go. So bloody excited.

You’d hope they run with the same setup of only having the stray dog on the sidelines for a min or 2 pre match and halftime. You really notice the difference in quality when you watch the fox buildup to a match, then our buildup

What a gig Halligan has, flown to all the away games for 2-3mins work a week

Sorry shouldn’t laugh, but the Eels haven’t won anything since Sterling and Kenny were running things…

having a plan and doing it against this mob are different things

This guy’s whole existence is such a weird anomaly to me. 300 first grade games and 50 tests (!) and I swear he was a decent player at the Storm and basically garbage for a full decade after that. Not only was he a shit player but he was an absolute grub, and a completely unlikeable person and total charisma vacuum…so naturally he gets unlimited TV gigs post-retirement. Honestly comes across as both an imbecile and quite a nasty bloke. One of life’s mysteries how everything has constantly fallen into his lap.
