18-13, Melbourne. Final.

Roosters season is done. It was a poor one by their standards. The finals glossed it over.

Ugh, Melbourne Broncos and Penrith in the last 4.

Cmon Warriors...geez I'm like a cat on a hot tin roof today. I remember that feeling from 08 and 2011

I remember having a nervous spew at work before heading home to watch the '02 GF! Why do we put ourselves through this?

Because it makes you feel alive.

I absolutely bloody love it. In stark contrast to the hollow, familiar feeling of playing for nothing in August and not at all in September.

Melbourne lucky to win that at the end. Munster was really lifting the team. Harry Grant got away with the most blatant knock on I have seen for a long time.

Entertaining contest due to the score line

Alright, it's been nearly an hour since fulltime was blown on that memorable match.

So, our best-ever home final? I'm still going with 2008. Why? Because I think the Roosters were a much better side than Newcastle. As simple as that.

Oh, and of course, that dramatic eighth beating first game that preceded it had something to do with it.

"Whatever happens in the weeks ahead, the Warriors surely won’t be waiting 15 years for their next home final." A Stuff reporter getting a bit emotional.

Who would've thought in 2008 - and most of us here, were there - that our next one would be in 2023? Not me. To put it in perspective that's like us now waiting for 2038. An appalling thought.

The best thing about today is pretty much whatever happens from here it’s been a great season. Even once I was confident we were finals bound I’ve been saying all year I’d be stoked if we made it to week 3 - that’s achieved now, and I think the team can play with zero pressure and expectation on them from here.

I’m away so haven’t seen it, great that they got it done, and a terrific season that I never saw coming

think we have a chance at Brisbane tbh, but big underdogs.

100% agree with this.

I have always loved this side, but the joy hasn't been there for a long time. This year has been flat out fun. I base my weeks around when the game is, as opposed to previous years where I watch it if it's on, but especially once we've been out of finals contention, I don't care if I miss it.

Of course I'd love to make the GF but I'm happy as shit. Webster and co have brought fun back to the place, the expectation of winning, professionalism, the lot.

Pride. That's the biggest word.

08 was unique.

Funny story - I was working in the media that year, I had a season media pass to Mt Smart (and I think all grounds? Can't remember) At the end of the regular season, when we finished 8th, I threw it away. No shit. Threw it in the rubbish bin. I had no idea we could still host a final in 8th. Richard Becht, the media man wasn't happy he had to organise another pass - he had enough commitments that week. Fortunately I got one sorted.

I think the atmosphere that week was obviously buzzing off the Storm win, but no one expected a home game. The crowd were insane that night. Even the media box was. A lot of them trying to kick the Roosters home.

Monday morning and, as a shift-worker, I'm having a long, leisurely breakfast with a day-off ahead.

In front of me is the print version of Saturday's SMH. Back pages? Wall-to-wall Newcastle! Four and bit pages to be precise. I read it all. Neutrals love the 'Steel City', Warriors fans? We love it too, especially after a 40-10 trouncing!

The only Warriors article was a smallish piece on Dallin and Monty, but even that was about two Sydney boys and how they'd go against their much vaunted Newcastle opposites.

What a choice read. With an exciting week ahead for us Warriors fans.

I'm just pumped for the old heads. I've been on this forum for like 10 years and we've had f'all success in that time. That 2018 year with Kearney was pretty successful, but something about the footy that we were playing and the vibe, it just never felt sustainable. The posters that are still here from the long term are the real OG's and deserve this feeling.

This year is different, as Penrose said, Webby has brought fun back to the team, and he has bought professionalism back too, its pretty rare to have both in such a short time. He's brought all the old boys in, and created a real sense of pride within the squad too that is evident.

Post match presser was cool this week. Tohu did more talking then Webby, which if you know how much of an introvert Tohu is, that's massive. He's made the players accountable of their own performances and just given them confidence.

Let's see how far we can push this.

I’ve been on this site or it’s predecessors since 1999 or 2000 (can’t remember exactly, but it was one of those years). The vibe this year has been like 2001, new rookie coach, second to last in the previous season and turning a corner early in the year to eventually make the finals, though this year has already exceeded that season where we were bundled out in the 1st week of the finals by a dominant Parra team. Hopefully Webby can emulate Ando by taking us deep into the finals in the coming seasons, and hopefully he and management have learned from that period’s later mistakes and don’t repeat the 2004 implosion and keep us as a force for years to come!

A lot of having a deep run in this comp is all about the stars aligning at the right time, and having a bit of luck along the course of the year. Most important positive and the key to getting far is having a fit squad, and the Warriors are pretty much 100% fit at this stage, trouble is Brisbane are pretty much in the same position. Had a pretty nice draw this season as well, and 15/24 games in NZ and it all mixes together into the perfect storm

Warriors have definitely ticked all those boxes this year, and the best part in they’ve made the most of it and then some. Important to give this chance the best crack possible, because you never know what’s around the corner, 3 teams that were in the prelim final 12 months ago missed the top 8 this season
