NRL Games

I have finally lost just about all interest in the game now , for the very reasons that yourself and BBTB have mentioned .

It has become a shambles , they no longer use the advert - ‘ the greatest game of all ‘ as it has no meaning whatsoever . And I blame it on the NRL for kowtowing to the television corporations and by so doing displaying absolute indifference to the purity of the game .

It is a mishmash of broken segments - a hybrid of rugby league that the tele moguls have refined over the years and they now present as entertainment - not sport .

Damn shameful !
In addition to the game being run by the TV Corporations and therefore having more entertainment rather than sport value, Covid helped to bring about the interest "demise" in the league for several reasons which I'm not going into great depth about but some examples are -
* Putting First Grade Games on to ensure that finances are paid to the NRL
* No lower grade competition for "yonks" thereby impacting on our junior development
* New rules being introduced (and subsequent tweakings and changes)
* Top teams maintain top 8 presence while lower teams continue to languish/perish
* etc

I'm sure you guys would have more to add/say on this or you don't have any loss of interest.

Maybe it is yet another phase that we all have to adapt to. I am positive that the fans following Penrith, Storm, Eels, Roosters etc have not lost any interest at all with the league games seeing that their teams keep on vying for top 4 spots each year. I'd say that if Penrith was in fact St George Illawarra we would be feeling cock-a-hoop every year too.

Watching Rooster v Storm. Suaaii was lucky not to have been put on report for a shoulder charge. Wasn't even picked up by the bunker. They do have some luck. If it was us for sure we would have copped it.

I really admire & am in awe of teams like the Broncos and Cowboys that are prepared to sacrifice a couple of ordinary seasons, whilst they stick with their young crop of players.

They are now seeing the benefits in their foresight and development, with some added playmaker experience to steer the ship.
Our mob seem to chop, drop and replace with experienced journeyman plodders.
We are the oldest, slowest & dumbest team in the NRL for a reason……Shit decision making!

Mate I agree, I now look more forward to watching games with Broncos, Cows, Sharks to see how they go as they’ve made clear steps to improving, even as you say, at the cost of competition points whilst developing.
We are just a paycheque for aging players and coaches.
You think Woodsy who spends most of his time on Triple M really cares about the club?
Or our recruiting man lol Flanno?
We are just a paycheque.

Spot on Crush and I really enjoy watching those same 3 teams you mentioned.
I am jealous of clubs with speed & youthful enthusiasm, whilst ours is suppressed or non existent.

I too admire the achievements made by both the Broncos and Cowboys. Both teams were at the bottom of the heap on the ladder last year (14th and 15th respectively) and were last and 14th respectively in 2020. Both clubs took big steps in changes to their coaching staff and the Broncos took Ben Ikin out of his role as the anchorman of NRL 360 and put him in the football and performance directors role at the club. These changes together with trusting and further developing their youth and sprinkled in with those experienced players have done wonders for the clubs. They are following the Penrith formula/parameters.

This is what the Dragons need to do. We cannot get rid of the old guys running the joint but someone has to bite the bullet and change the way we operate and follow the Broncos/Cowboys/Penrith formula to the letter.

This means, new head of football and performance director, new head and assistant coaches, bring in all of the young players into first grade that are mostly ready, keep the better experienced other players we have, get rid of the journeymen and older brigade. Easy, peasy dragonseasy.

Go the doggies!
Who’s coaching them again?
Was it Noddy? Or Stacy Jones? Or Mick Potter?
I can’t keep up with all the 90s ex player coaches going around

Manly thought they had the game in the bag against the Cowboys with about 8 minutes to go with the score 26-12. They didn't count on the Cowboys rallying to score 3 quick unanswered tries, 2 being converted, to get up in the end 28-26. The Cowboys are the real deal this year.
