NRL Jersey prices are a rip off

I want to lodge a complaint with the NRL in to why jersey prices are so high in this country. What concerns me is that the same makers/brands in the U.K sell Super League and Rugby Union jerseys for a fraction of the price. In fact in many cases 1/2 the price of what we pay for the jerseys here.

I have looked up all the Super League teams and the average price for a replica 2011 jersey ranges from 40 pounds ($75 Australian Dollars). Through to 45 pounds ($80 Australian Dollars). Brands include Kooga, Canterbury and ISC. I have also compared Rugby jersey prices in 6 other European countries and none of which price there jerseys over equivalent of $100 Australian dollars.

Who is responsible for setting the prices in Australia? Obviously there is merchandising fees and other costs. Does this justify an almost $100 difference?

Are clothing manufacturers price fixing the jersey prices? Knowing that no matter what price they post the fans will fork out up to $170 for a NRL jersey. I bought 2 jerseys this year and it cost me substantially more then my season ticket. It is just fascicle.

The prices have been pushed far above the reach of many fans in our sport. In an era where we want to compete with other codes and attract people to our game and the cost of being a fan continue to rise. Don't even get me started with prices of food and drinks at the football.

If any one knows of whom I can pose the question to at the NRL or even the individual shirt manufacturers themselves then that would be appreciated.

well seeming the NRL gets $20 million more off merchandise then any their next best competitiors in Australia. I don't think too many people have a problem with the prices.

The bargains are there if you look for it. I bought my Souths jersey for just $90 from the official website.

Get them in the offseason. But yeah, it sucks. Australians get ripped off with everything though. So it isn't surprising.

I refuse to buy them due to the insanely high prices and on the odd occasion I do buy official NRL merch I make sure I do it from my club run online shop, that way I make sure that atleast the majority of profit goes directly to my club.

$170 for 1 piece of clothing already plastered with sponsors is robbery imo

to the OP, prices ahve been ridiculous for a long time and we have a yearly debate about League jerseys vs the cost of AFL jersey's etc.

email the NRL i'm sure Gallop would be confused what you're talking about and furrow his brow quizically

Absolutely! Books are ridiculously overpriced, electronics are just the same as are video games. If I want to buy a reference book on something, I go to Amazon.com. If I want a PC or Xbox game I order from Asia. Electronic goods from eBay. It's just the same with a whole variety of stuff.

Video games are a joke. 100% markup on US prices. Now without the convenient excuse of 'its the exchange rate'

Game and book pricing is based on volume of sales. The more you sell the lower the price can come down in order for retailers to make a decent profit.

A population of 30mil vs 300mil makes a difference
