No.
V’landys is starting to lose the plot.Nothing is a done deal: V’landys pushes Super Bowl-style NRL grand final
The NRL will propose a certain number of grand finals in Sydney and Brisbane over the next decade. The rest would be sold off to the highest bidder.www.smh.com.au
Sounds like he’s negotiating.V’landys is starting to lose the plot.
Best play at MCG every year then given it can fit 15k more than Accor! The NRL sells off one origin game per year to a neutral venue. And i actually think it works ok now seeing as it happens every year.
I dont think the GF should be moved. GFs need to be accessible to the blue collar loyal fans who support there teams and having it in smaller venues doesn't help the demand.
For example your team might only make one GF every 25 years so locking out 25-30k fans isnt the way to go.
I like the cut of your jibe.It gives Kent and Slothfield the shits so yes, it's a good idea.
Queensland Gov built three stadiums without any promise of grand finals. NSW Gov should have built these grounds years ago.Difference is it’s supposed to be a national comp, not a Sydney one. There’s no good reason other than nsw govt funding support to have it in Sydney every year. Even less so as the comp keeps growing with more non Sydney teams.
the Beijing comment is just a strawman argument
In that case all three SOO games should be held at Lang Park because it's the birthplace of Origin and "tradition".This will be an unpopular opinion for Queenslanders but I believe the rugby league grand final should stay in Sydney every year. I also think the AFL grand final should stay in Melbourne every year. The heart of those two sports are in those cities. Don't throw out tradition and dilute the product for the sake of a few extra dollars. Brisbane can have the sole rights to Magic Round.
Nothing like the TV coverage opening GF day with an bird's eye view of the Sydney Olympic Stadium from a chopper, then zooming in on the Sydney Harbour Bridge whilst having some BBQ and beer. Traditions and sport go hand in hand, and separating them and going elsewhere has a feel of a Friday night match. It simply doesn't feel the same. This will be an unpopular opinion for Queenslanders but I believe the rugby league grand final should stay in Sydney every year. You imbecile! I am content with the way Origin is sold at the moment. There are 9 clubs in NSW. The heart of RL is in Sydney. It is a tradition that needs to continue according to the structure of our game. People from interstate who want to see the game can make a weekend of it and travel. In that case all three SOO games should be held at Lang Park because it's the birthplace of Origin and "tradition".
100%. I live in QLD but will happily make the trek if my Tigers in my lifetime get another opportunity.Nothing like the TV coverage opening GF day with an bird's eye view of the Sydney Olympic Stadium from a chopper, then zooming in on the Sydney Harbour Bridge whilst having some BBQ and beer. Imagine a Penrith v Tigers GF......being played in Perth. That crowd would just not have the same appreciation and joy as it would if the game was in Sydney.Nothing like the TV coverage opening GF day with an bird's eye view of the Sydney Olympic Stadium from a chopper, then zooming in on the Sydney Harbour Bridge whilst having some BBQ and beer. And when Penrith International Airport opens, it'll be much quicker and easier to get to the hotels around the ground.100%. I live in QLD but will happily make the trek if my Tigers in my lifetime get another opportunity.
So you want the GF played in Sydney each year to give Sydney teams an advantage "cuz trah-di$$ion", but you're happy with shipping Origin around the country? You imbecile! Imagine a perth v storm final played in Sydney. So self entitled.Imagine a Penrith v Tigers GF......being played in Perth. That crowd would just not have the same appreciation and joy as it would if the game was in Sydney.
It’s a pretty shit venue to watch rugby at tbh. Saw the wallabies there in 2007 you’re not as close to the action thereBest play at MCG every year then given it can fit 15k more than Accor!
The 'events' are a decent revenue source for NRL. I can see them looking for more opportunities in time to come. They've now got SOO, all stars, Nines (when they play it), Magic weekend and Finals. There's probably room for one or two more in the year. This whole thing is just a PVL negotiation tool. As much as I'd love a Grand Final in Melbourne, it won't happen.
I'd like to see a Magic Round down here though. Kick off the season down here with all 8 games, no AFL on. Weather still nice etc.
Again, one thing that would probably never happen, but if you're that keen on earning a buck without f**king up traditions then maybe think outside the box a little.
So is Accor tbf, at least you can sell more tickets at the MCG.It’s a pretty shit venue to watch rugby at tbh. Saw the wallabies there in 2007 you’re not as close to the action there
I’ve been to games at stadium Australia before, it’s much more configured for rugby. They put temporary seating inSo is Accor tbf, at least you can sell more tickets at the MCG.
