NRL looking to move Grand Final around - good idea?

It’s a great opportunity to get the WA govt to put some money into the game here as well as getting squillions of cash out of them. Be dumb to not bring it here at least once every 5 or 6 years. If it does go up,for sale it has to be sold as the premium sports events in the country so states are falling over themselves to host it.
I can see the benefits of this, (as well as a Perth team for that matter) however looking at the competition as it is if Brisbane is guaranteed a GF every 5 years then that's an event that city can plan for, same as Melbourne/Auckland every 10 years.

Plus it gives those city's teams incentive to play in a home grand final. Imagine if the Dolphins (example only) were a contender in the year the GF was due in Brisbane, it would create added excitement and interest in the lead up games to the GF.

If Perth/Adelaide/Whoever gets a team they join the rotation.

Dont fool yourself, if it goes up for sale it will be sold to whoever offers the best deal. A 65k stadium selling all premium priced tickets, opportunity for NRL to connect with new corporates and $10mill plus from the govt plus hopefully some funding initiatives for the NRLWA would be more than enough to get it here I suspect, team or no team.

People saying it shouldn't move due to capacity of Accor, please. add in the $10mill plus for hosting and selling every seat at a premium price and it earns more money at smaller venues.

It was a very antagonistic interview for something that’s already been agreed!
Cmon don’t you like vlandys now.

imagine it was Greenberg gallop Moffat or Beattie in charge now.

now we’ve got a leader who makes politicians dance to his tune

Vlandys should make sure none of the money goes to accor and that last 130 million goes to Campbelltown, shark park or the gong

Agreed

I read the afl made an extra 20 million from having their grand final there

Nothing is black and white, he does some good stuff, he does some sht stuff. My biggest problem apart form his arrogance and stupid comments is in governance, he is the chair and is acting like the CEO. That's never a good governance structure in my experience.

Ive seen lots of answers on here, and criticism of what I said earlier. Seems like most people on here just care about money and not the actual game itself. To say its a national game is just a joke-its centered in 3 states. Its been tried before to go to other states and its failed. And SOOs in Melbourne i hate-its NSW vs Queensland and should never have been allowed to go there. But if you want to just run everything by money alone, then good luck to you. You'll get what you want -but you may not be rich enough to afford to go to it . Try buying a season pass to a soccer match in the UK

This will be an unpopular opinion for Queenslanders but I believe the rugby league grand final should stay in Sydney every year. I also think the AFL grand final should stay in Melbourne every year. The heart of those two sports are in those cities. Don't throw out tradition and dilute the product for the sake of a few extra dollars. Brisbane can have the sole rights to Magic Round.

The game didn’t fail in those other states, it was killed by SL. In any case, we need to go beyond three states again.

Btw that is not in anyway related to the discussion about the grand final but more in relation to keeping the game in NSW/Qld

So the only argument I’ve heard for why it must stay in Sydney is because it always has been there. Self entitlement or what?

Whose saying that argument ? Not vlandys or the arlc

it’s only staying in Sydney because the nsw government will have spent 2 billion in upgraded grounds which largely are used by rugby league

the new grounds which actually provide far more benefit than the 10 million pa extra the arlc can sell the grand final for

each club is going to get a massive boost, especially via corporate boxes

Yes. or no. Depends how much it irks the NSW Govt. They've spent over a $1.5billion on stadiums so far and gifted NRL clubs tens of millions for CofE's so I think they might be a bit peeved at now risking losing the GF.
Having said that its a massive cash cow that is unmilked for the NRL and could bring in $10mill plus a year as well as help grow the games interest levels around the country (and in NZ).
Upsetting a current government isn’t a big deal. It’s not like they are permanent.

While were at it, we could move Wimbledon, The Boxing Day test, AFL Grand Final, Monaco car race-lets just make everything about money
I think they should consider moving the Boxing Day test. Why does Melbourne get it every year?
The only argument is they have that big stadium.
The argument “tradition” is weak.

It should be the highest placed team that qualifies for the GF and then tickets go on sale and a 2 week break until the GF.

Let's hope it goes to Victoria. Commemorate it with special Grand final jerseys too.

I meant on here.
I’m sure the nrl would love to be able to sell it regularly to other cities.

The NRL sells off one origin game per year to a neutral venue. And i actually think it works ok now seeing as it happens every year.

I dont think the GF should be moved. GFs need to be accessible to the blue collar loyal fans who support there teams and having it in smaller venues doesn't help the demand.

For example your team might only make one GF every 25 years so locking out 25-30k fans isnt the way to go.
