I know it's not your angle nor do you agree, but that's rubbish. Sounds like the nanny state rubbish we're expected to run with in teaching. A contract is a contract, clubs are entitled to hold him there if they believe he's a required player.
Contracts have become worthless. Da Silva is contracted till end next year, a major piece of the Tigers squad, yet the club could lose him as early as next week.
By all accounts he’s a good kid who isn’t stirring shit like Galvin did, he’s simply ambitious and wants to start.
The ambition is admirable but there’s zero accountability for signing a contract. Players are taking advantage of clubs’ fears that keeping an unhappy player will infect the rest of the playing group.
Clubs are stuck in a no win situation so the NRL needs to impose deterrents from their end to support them.
It’ll probably kick off a shit fight with the RLPA but for the long term good of the game, and for frustrated supporters who keep seeing their players waltz out of their contracts, it’s a fight worth having.
