Magic Round! It never needs much introduction. Anything can happen, even zero sin bins! Imagine that.

It all kicks off Friday night with the wounded Sharks against Parra. The Roosters will try to tell us they're back in form, but the truth is they just can't be trusted. I tipped Redcliffe.

Saturday, it'll be Souths favourites to roll Newcastle, then the big one, Warriors (with a big 'home' crowd) clashing with the Cowboys. I'm expecting our quicker backs and forwards - Taine, Ali, Leka and Egan - to enjoy some open play for a change. Things are different this weekend. It's an exhibition.

Wests are riding high, an extra-time win at Leichhardt will always do that for them but it's back to reality now against St George, who have more experience in big games (well, Gutho does, and he's a leader for them already). I hope Galvin doesn't go up in a puff of smoke in another week or two. He made his mark last week and they need him.

Sunday, Dessie, after decades of playing and coaching, might need a magic wand to win this, but the Bulldogs were beaten badly, even humbled, last week so the GC might come home good.

Penrith, oh Penrith. They look shot. Edwards, Yeo, Cleary, it's not there anymore. The Broncos will test their defence, it could even get ugly. We close with Melbourne v Canberra, the Raiders are gnarly enough to worry Bellamy's lot and it would be true to how this season's going if Sticky snatched an upset.

Enjoy!

Fun Fact for Magic Round

This is the 6th year of Magic Round, and it is the 6th year the Bronocs have been the ‘away’ side at Suncorp Stadium. The previous 5, it has been Manly v Brisbane with Manlys home game. That arrangement was ended, Manly have the bye this season. Brisbane haven’t played a game at Brookvale since 2014

Ridiculous! I see they play each other on May 31 at Brookie.

Always annoys me how on Magic Round, we are always the home team.

tough gig for Brisbane, bit like India at the Champions Trophy, against all odds...

I am going to keep tipping Penrith, one day they'll play well

Remember the lip service we got after COVID and the hard yards we did in Redcliffe?

We got the Tigers to bring one game here and that was it.

Im not saying we deserved anything but they were all (and actually still do) pissing on about how the Warriors deserved to have more home games come their way but it never happened. And still we play a four hour flight away as our 'home game'

It is a flat out rort that the Broncos play as the away team and I'm surprised, although not, that you don't hear more about this

It's a big chance that we never skip one either as we have a big turnout of fans.

How do they select who’s home and away for the round? And is there a financial incentive for away teams?

Had no idea about that Broncs stat and yea man it’s an absolute rort. There must be big bucks in it for away teams then?
