You seem quite convinced of Mini's superior kick return ability:
Tommy Smith said:Hodgson is not incredibly safe at the back. He dropped more bombs than Minichiello and his defence is very suspect. He might be safe but certainly not "incredibly safe".And to say his kick returns are just as, if not more potent than Minichiello's is just laughable. The men in white coats will be on their way around to your house once they read that.Mini is without doubt the best kick returner. That's his trademark, the thing that separates him from all the other players in the world. The stats say so, i.e. tackle breaks, metres gained and so does the footage if you actually watch games from an unbiased viewpoint.
Tommy Smith said:He makes a hell of a lot more tackle breaks than any other FB.
I have some interesting stats for you.
* Hodgo makes 9.3 mts/hit-up to Mini's 8.5 mts/hit-up which equates to just under 10% more mts/hit-up. RESULT: Hodgo > Mini.
* Hodgo also made more linesbreaks than Mini. Hodgo made .06 linebreaks/hit-up to Mini's .04 linebreaks/hit-up. That means Hodgo made a staggering 50% more linebreaks/hit-up than Mini. RESULT: Hodgo > Mini.
* Minichiello made 15% more errors than Hodgo during '04. Mini also missed a few more tackles. RESULT: Hodgo > Mini.
The stats do infact show that Hodgo is the more potent attacker in terms of line breaks and metres resulting from these breaks. As I said, Mini rarely hits space like Hodgo, Bowen, Slater. The stats also show that he is safer at the back also highlighting the possibility that Hodgo should play FB in rep sides with Mini on the wing. This is also made more possible following the retirement of Sing.
Now I will get to the stats reffering to Hodgo's mid-feild attacking ability.
* Hodgson assisted 8 trys in '04 800% more than Minichiello. RESULT: Hodgo > Mini.
* Hodgson made 33 kicks in general play during '04 300% more than MinichielloRESULT: Hodgo > Mini.
Brett was also the 3rd highest point scorer in the NRL playing in, as Simon said, a crap side. The mind boggles at what he could have done in a side like the Roosters. If there were a stat for the biggest heart or the most valuable to a team, Brett would be, as usual, at the top of the chart once again.
Both players are very good fullbacks in their own right. The option of playing Minichiello on the wing provides the opportunity to play two exceptional players in the one team.
What were you saying about the men in the white coats Tommy Smith? RESULT: Tommy Smith: poorly misinformed and dilluded.
