NRLW TV ratings killing AFLW

I’d take anything from the fumblers with a grain of salt. Their ratings were generally very poor on the weekend. The crowds were first week crowds and similar in average to what we reported in round 1. Tbh I have never watched aflw and I never will. I’m only interested from a data analysis point of view. The Matilda’s honeymoon may have helped them week 1 but the grim dawn of reality would have been evident last weekend.

The rating for NRLW seems low and thats not good as its what the NRL lives off.
The game last night was prime for good rating but really wasn't pushed enough.

It's hard to get a full picture simply because all we have at the moment is Fox League figures.

Once you add Nine, 9Now & Kayo, audiences could be significantly larger.

That said, I expect there has been a hit, and it's not surprising.

Firstly, more teams equals more games, but it doesn't mean people's consumption increases. You'd hope that the overall audience has increased, but sometimes there is a delay effect.

Secondly, more NRLW games have gone head-to-head with Men's games this year than ever before. Nine has decided it likes having NRLW matches at 3pm Saturday & 2pm Sunday, and whilst that works for them, it means NRLW is pushed off 502 on Fox Sports and those who have Kayo/Fox need to choose between the Men's or Women's Premiership.

Thirdly, less has been more new timeslots this year for NRLW. 5:30pm Thursday, 7:30pm Thursday, 6pm Friday, 6pm Sunday are all timeslots which have had or will have 1-2 games this year. That can hurt general audiences, especially if a game is at an inconvenient time.

Yep. Thursday nights game got 36000 on fox. I have no idea what that means for the overall total.

Some figures from VOZ (virtualoz.com.au):

Note: These figures are only for specific age groups, so should not be taken as total Channel 9 audience. The exact game they are referring to, is a bit vague as well.

Sunday 3rd September:
People aged 16-39 : 28,000

Saturday 2rd September:
People aged 16-39 : 24,000

Saturday 26th August:
People aged 16-39 : 20,000

Saturday 19th August:
People aged 16-39 : 28,000

Thursday's Sharks v Dragons match drew 110,000 on Channel Nine in Brisbane / Sydney, and had 36,000 on Fox League. Throw in Kayo + 9Now figures, fair to say it drew over 150K.

Easily. Would have been closer to 200000

That was pretty well hyped as a top of the table clash, the numbers show that people are listening and responding by watching accordingly, which is promising I think.
Followed by 47k for Titans v Eels on Sunday. Which illustrates that timeslot is crucial.

Edit: Just noticed that you posted the above figure on the ratings thread. Apropos of the second sentence, this week's final round should rate well, particularly Sunday with no NRL games. Raiders need to beat the Titans to make the semis.

Second edit: I make it Raiders have to win by 12.

I love watching the girls battle it out, very entertaining but I can't get used to the female commentators on fox. Too screachy for my liking.
I go to the mancave to get away from that sort of chatter.

Round 7:
Raiders v Knights: 1,962
Broncos v Sharks: 1,478
Cowboys v Dragons: 2,479
Titans v Wests Tigers: 4,790
Roosters v Eels: 3,756
Total: 14,465

Round 8:
Sharks v Dragons: 1,630
Wests Tigers v Broncos: 3,634
Knights v Roosters: 3,634
Cowboys v Raiders: 1,096
Titans v Eels: 2,086
Total: 12,080

Round 9:
Wests Tigers v Knights: 1,733
Roosters v Cowboys: 632

Total: 9,879

Crowd Total: 216,641 (Give or take a few thousand for the 2x unknown games)

Fox League:
Roosters v Titans - 69,000
Knights v Broncos - 62,000

Channel 9 :
Roosters v Titans - 295,000 (VOZ)
Knights v Broncos - Estimate 100,000

With Kayo numbers, that would put Roosters v Titans easily over 400K.
