From May this season Fox Sports will broadcast a NSWRL program which features a match of the day and comprehensive highlights, statitistcs and previews from the VB NSW Cup and Jim Beam Cup.

May! What a crock. Is there an organisation anywhere more useless than the NSWRL?

I'll have to take your word for it mate, but I'll take it with a grain of salt. If the NZRL can find two brain cells to rub together then they leave the NSWRL for dead.

Helensburgh will have a pretty stong side.

They should have Jardine Bobongie, Tony Caine, Joe Falemaka, Jon Green, Mark Hendy and Frank Samia and maybe a couple of others.

Thats where Frank SAMIA ended up hey??. Gees he played some great games for the Jets. Was just a little unlucky with injuries. So was Jardine for that matter. Good side.

NORTH SYDNEY BEARS BEGIN 2008
19th February 2008
By Steve Little

The North Sydney Club will begin their 2008 season campaign with a mixture of Bears 07 experience and some highly touted North Sydney and South Sydney talent on team.
Beau Champion, Greg Nichols, Shannon Hegarty, Luke Grant, Scott Geddes, Ben Lowe, Dave Wynyard, Shannan McPherson and Ryan Verlinden will all once again hit the paddock for Norths on Saturday at Concord Oval.

While of great interest will be the new kids on the block that all come with high praise from Coaches Wayne Lambkin and Jason Taylor – winger Nathanael Barnes, centre Jamie Simpson, five-eight Charlie Herekotukutuku, halfback Marc Russell and hooker George Ndaira all make their competition run-on debut in the Red and Black.

While John Koborsi, Beau Falloon, Shaune Corrigan, John Tamanika, Sean Dalton and Daniel Sayegh will be vying for a spot on their first competition bench for 2008.

Last years Grand Final five-eight Beau Champion has been named captain.

The Bears juniors this week travel all the way to Toronto to face the highly fancied Newcastle teams. Both the bears Harold Matthews and S G Ball are both still in contention for the 2008 competition. Charles Vicente returns for the S G Ball team.

The NSW Rugby League today launched its two major competitions for Rugby League’s Centenary year which will both be covered in a new television show on Fox Sports.

From May this season Fox Sports will broadcast a NSWRL program which features a match of the day and comprehensive highlights, statitistcs and previews from the VB NSW Cup and Jim Beam Cup.

NSWRL General Manager Geoff Carr said the program, which will air each Wednesday at 5pm, would showcase the strengthening standard of the NSWRL’s two major competitions.

Top idea and about time. Hey this " Match of the day " idea. Is that ONE game from P/League and one game from Beam, or just one game alternatively ( each week etc ) btw each comps ?? Any more details mate. What is the " Match of the day " the two leading teams etc, so that being the case if a team is a cellar dweller they dont make the TV ???

Exciting article though. Am not complaining at all, just would like to know more about how it works.

2TB,

I'm sure we'll be watching Ndaira closely after the way he cut us up last year at Henso. But the Bears will need to watch out for Flanno more. Promises to be a cracking game.

As for the match of the day - it'll be determined by who pays for the coverage. Yes it's better than what we had in the past, but the clubs will have to fork out for coverage that doesn't start until at least 7 rounds in. Should have been much better.

If anyone buys Big League tomorrow can you please post the Central Coast Storm line-up?
Thanks a lot!

My tips:
Auckland V CC Storm - hard to pick, Auckland might have too much at home
Central Newcastle Knights V Balmain Ryde Eastwood - Knights have the strongest side in the comp atm
Cronulla Cobras V Newtown Jets - good trial form and a top centre pairing
Manly Sea Eagles V Wentworthville - a strong pack
Western Suburbs V North Sydney Bears - with a Scott Geddes field goal
Windsor Wolves V Bulldogs - Aaron Groom scored 4 tries against Windsor in a trial and expect him to star again

What colours will we see the Vulcans taking the field in? Are they also sponsored by Vodafone?

They played a trial against the Warriors wearing the traditional Auckland RL jersey (royal blue with the white chevron - IMO one of the best looking jerseys in RL).
